I've just purchased a new PC (will be getting it Thursday/Friday next week :) ) and as I am planning to sell my current PC I had thought I'd uninstall Office XP off the old one and install it on the new one.
As Office XP registers itself with Microsoft am I likely to run into any problems?

Office XP registers itself with Microsoft? Are you sure about that? I've installed my copy of Office XP on other comps... erm I mean... uh.... of course I bought licenses for it *wink *wink

lol
I think it checks for warez keys when you apply updates, but I don't believe it "calls home".
Depends on the key actually and what liscense you bought. If you bought a legit copy, you can re-register online with up to 3 system configurations if i remember correctly. There is also a number to call to update your system information, so you wont be locked out of the program.
In case this is not legit. If you dont see a screen saying it's connecting to register, don't worry. But I did'nt say that.

Surprisingly (perhaps) what I've said is the truth - strange how these "safety" features of software seem to hit the legal user harder than the illegal user!

Sort of like Windows XP - you can apply a copy onto 2 different systems.
My "version" of Office XP doesn't connect to MS (I think ;) ), nor does it try to when I apply updates (I also think ;) )... hmmm... maybe MS screwed up with my "copy" *wink *wink
