constant rebooting, processor dead?

Hey guys, it's been a looong time since I have been here, but I am in need of your help! I purchased a P4 2.6CGhz processor and a Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 motherboard. I have done many cpu installations and built many computers but somehow this problem has be baffled.

When powering up the computer there is obviously power, so I guess no shorts. But nothing happens, no POST, no video. It just seems reboot constantly. The drive lights blink like they are being initialized, stop, and then blink again as if being initialized again. It just does this over and over again.

Can anyone give me some possible insight into this problem?

First check to make sure the CPU is seated propperly as that will definitely cause this problem. Next ry different ram if that's possible. Also try it with only a video card in it. Make sure that the jumper settings for the cpu speed are correct.

Could be something is shorting out. Remove evrything including the mobo from the case and try it out of the case.

Put the mobo on a box and just install the insentials:
1 stick of ram
video card
floppy
hdd
cdrom

Also be sure as kryyst mentioned that the cpu is seated properly and that that hsf is making good contact, then fire it up.

humm... I tried everything, and as far as I know there are no CPU jumpers on the board... I guess RMA time.

Hey I think I remember you, long time no see.

Anyways, check to see if your HS/F power lead needs to be connected to the FAN1 header on the motherboard, certain mobo's require it connected to this specifically.

Yeah, it does, but that's where I had it connected :( Can't believe someone remembers me though, that's pretty wild.

Take it out of the case and everything off of it. Insure the CPU is well seated and the heat sink is on properly. Insert one stick of RAM and the video card. Make sure both are well seated. CLEAR the CMOS with the jumper or what that board uses. Make sure that the jumper is put back in the run position. Connect the psu and see if it will post. You will need to hook up the start switch or short the pins to light it off.

my friend had that same prob with an amd proc. i fixed it by reseating the processor, cause he let a moron install it the first time, but it ended up being slightly dead (wouldnt let windows run or install) and got rma'd anyways.
