hey all!
im getting a Athlon 2800 Barton CPU soon and was wondering if it needs a super high power supply or anything like that?
I have a 350w PSU at the mo, just wanna check if i need a 400w supply or not
cheers
ps if i dont need a new PSU would i see any benefit in getting one?

At defaults, depending on the strength of the rails on the 350W, you may or may not need one. If you're going to overclock then you definitely want a 400W+.
A Sparkle 350W would be fine, but most generic 350 wouldn't cut it.

Finally replacing that TBird Hey Ste? You gettin faster ram too, to utilise the higher FSB of the CPU? Or sticking with the DDR you had for the Tbird?

A 400 watt should definately suffice.

+3.3 Used by newer processors, AGP video cards, system ram and other motherboard circuits...
+5 Used on older motherboards to power components including the PSU. Manufacturers are putting more emphasis on +3.3 and migrating away from +5 voltages. +5 is still used to power floppy drives and optical drives.
I'm not an expert, but it's my understanding the 5v rail delivers power to the cpu... as the 3.3v wouldn't, by itself, have enough ampherage to power a agp slot as well as the RAM in addition to a power hungry cpu...
