Has anyone seen or heard of or know where one could get a rg-11 coax crimper? NOTE I SAID RG, NOT RJ. This is driving me crazy! Rg 11 is so much better than rg 6, and yet I can't find stuff anywhere on internet or eBay. It is 14 awg compared to 18. Cable company only has rg 6 stuff.

what the heck, maybe I'll add a few months back on my life if I go with some quad shielded full cu/copper and be just as happy. Maybe.

Basically I want to wire my house up for satelite incase I get it in near future, currently have cable with wire signal loss problems.

I have one. I aquired it from my last job when I left. We use to need it when running coax for networking cables before everything was switched over to Cat 5. It's not quite big enough for RG 11 but with a little patients it worked when I was doing my satellite install.

I don't know where you can buy one but I would check local electronic stores, stereo stores and those generic we sell anything Surplus style stores. I had to buy some ends and I got them at our local KW Surplus store and they had crimpers there also.

Well... my "preferred" rg-11 opportunity passed me up, but now I see rg-7, never heard of this, but apparently Belden makes it. This is 16 awg, which is just fine with me because it has more braid in the shielding (95% compared to 60% [i think]) and is solid 100% copper. I could get this off eBay, however it's twice the price of the rg-11, but it is also 2000 feet instead of 1000. I never knew what I could do with 1000 feet, but 2000!

I am wondering if an rg-6 crimper could fit this, and if the rg-6 fittings would fit. If they do then this would be REAL easy! Yet it would have more bandwidth! It is only dual shield so that should help some (compared to quad shield). I will do a little more research. I am still up for grabs on the cable I would like. I need cable, then I need crimper (pliers do not work well), and if it won't fit rg-6 fitting I will need them too. I do have plenty of rg-6 fittings, I can get those (and splitters) for free from cable company.

2000' of cable. Dear lord man what the hell are you wiring? I think I did my house with 150' of cable and that still left a pretty big coil at the end of it. I can't say for sure if RJ 6 ends will work or not. But it has been my experience that you can usually go one size up or down and it'll still fit, but the end won't be quite as nice.

Still your best be, if you have one in the area is just go to a local electronics Surplus store if you have one and see what fits and what doesn't.

What is the difference between a crimper and compressor? I have noticed that crimpers are hexagon shaped and that compressors are circular shaped, BUT are open on one end, like a horse shoe. Is one type better than the other?

Honesly I can't help you there I've never heard of or seen a compressor before. But I would guess it depends on the cable ends you are getting perhaps...Really with a little care, patients and lack of conscern for the perfect looking end you can do a pretty good job with a pair of channel locks. The trick is to just start applying pressure until the one end slides under the other and then just rotate around the end and slowly crush it into place. Not perfect but it works just as well for the most part.
