When I use the shutdown command in dos found in another thread in this forum started by yagga I type:
shutdown -s -m and the IP of the computer I want to shutdown.
Everytme I do it it shuts down my computer, instead of the one I am aiming for. No matter which IP on our network I type in there.
Anyone no whats up with that?
I really just want to be able to do this as an office prank.

First what OS are you running?
Secondly you probably don't have rights.
Thirdly don't be a fuck. The comand you are sending will put up a timmer and shutdown whatever computer you send it to. So if someone is in the middle of something well so much for there work. It also says who issued the command.
Being a net admin if someone came to me with that problem, well first it wouldn't happen since none of my peon's have access to do that stuff. But if someone did find away around it they would reboot to a fully locked down system with only enough permission to scracth their ass. I'd remove internet access to every site accept a few if needed. I'd spend extra attention filtering your emails and generally make your life misserable as hell. Giving you the right to
a) Call me nasty names behind my back
b) Complain to the owners about what's going on and then tell them why it's happening to you.
c) Lastly contemplate on how keeping a network secure from the outside world is tricky enough without having to worry about people inside doing stupid things.
So perhaps you think I'm being harsh. Perhaps I am, but just perhaps I deal with idiot employees all day long who try to pull pranks like this but only end up screwing up their own machines and in the end just create more work for me.
The lesson is ended.....

Well every now and then you have to step up to the plate.
Firebird what I'm saying is that if you followed all the advice on how to make it work in the other thread on the subject and still can't get it to work. Stop trying, as that command isn't going to work for you.
