Why is the flag backwards?

I SEEM to remember that it's meant to be a flag being carried next to him in parade. It would look backwards from this side.

That's pretty intereseting actually. Not the doctored photo bit as that's nothing abnormal on the i-net. But the flag bit is very a neat little piece of trivia indeed.
