Ok, i guess this fits in utilities. anyway, there are a number of staffers that have gmail invitations now, so we are going to open this up to the rest of the forums. if anyone wants gmail, just toss your name in here and one of the staffers here at icf will invite you. once you set up your account, you will get 3 invitations or so (usually within the first 24 hours, but sometimes as long as a couple of days). the catch is, you have to promise to give at least one of your invites back to another icf member so that everyone on the forums that wants gmail, can have it, and then you can invite your friends.

so, with that being said, are there any folks on teh forums that want gmail?

nah, just from the main screen, underneath the "search mail" and "search the web", a red link should show up that says "invite some friends" its pretty noticeable, especially because its bright red. you'll know when you get em . . .

you know that yahoo up-d there storage from a horrifying 4mb to a 100mb monster! I don't see any reason to go with Gmail, although I am interested. I also have seen some controversial privacy issues with it, don't know what to think of them at this moment though.

man, see, everyone says that the only reason to go with gmail is the storage, but that is simply not true. it has so many other features that are pretty fantastic. my favorite though, is i have never had an email account that was as fast as gmail. it seems that i get emails almost right as soon as someone hits send. makes me happy.

and the privacy thing is only an issue with people that dont really know whats going on.

A) its not a google employee reading your email, its an automated script
B) if you think hotmail and yahoo dont read your emails and send you spam, then you got another thing comin.

anyway, its just a big mess, but after using gmail for a little while now, i have to say that i pretty much love it.

hey, i wasn't saying forsure that I hated gmail, just what I heard. Anyway, I agree with you 100% with hotmail/msn accounts, Micro$oft sells your address to all these porn things and you get hundreds of spam every week. I have never got 1 spam from yahoo, but I am not saying they are the best either. Actually, I use yahoo only as a "dummy" account for stuff I don't want my real address listed but still need an email that I can check. It is good gmail is another choice, and that because of them yahoo did up their horribly small 4mb email accounts. I will give gmail a try when they release the final version. I also probably won't have any issues with it, and actually love it like you do.

yes.. i received drowd's invite :) and opened my account the same day. i've yet to receive any invites to distribute.

man, i officially hate hotmail. i just did a bunch of tests between hotmail and gmail. first i cleared out all of my "this is spam" folder (or whatever its called for hotmail). so, nothing would be blocked per me. i then sent a test email, and it did not go through (further up in this thread we mention that yahoo and hotmail are threatened by gmail). i then went in and edited my safe list, and added the gmail domain "@gmail.com". i sent another one, that was different from the first, and it went through immediately. i seriously cant believe they are getting away with this. where is microsoft, i want blood, and i want it now . . .

i dont THINK its related, but its possible. another friend that got an invite the same time as i did, and we kept getting them in waves of six. i was very active with my account, and he was not. the only thing we can think of that we had in common is A) we distributed them within 24 hours and B) every person we invited accepted. other than that, im not sure, but we both kept getting invites in waves of 6 just as soon as we got rid of the last batch.

this is the deal. People do a google search for "free gmail". They find this forum. They register and post once asking for gmail. They don't ever actually intend to become a contributing member of the community.

There may be one or two exceptions, but for the most part, I think that's what happens.

so i noticed earlier in the day today, that i no longer have the little red link at the top that says "invite someone to gmail" but rather a little blue box thingy on the side. i vaguely take note, and then go on about my way. so a little later tonite, i check to see how many invites i have, and it says 50. at first i thought i read it wrong, but does anyone elses say that? 50 frickin invites? thats insane! i was having a hard enough time getting rid of 2 or 3.

well, they made pop access available not too long ago, and i wanted to integrate gmail into outlook 2k3, but i found, that i was missing the whole web gui. its just so nice, and smooth and quick. so, i dunno, i used to be really down that i couldnt get it to work with outlook, but now, i prefer the gui. oh well :D
