[error] event 51, during paging operation

hello all


my name is paw and I got a disc problem, and im using a Asus A7N8X motherboard

at first glance it doesnt seems like I have any problems, I can boot okay, and bios fiinds my 3 disc alright ... so far so good ...

but when I start using winXp, after a while I get mouse freezes ( which eventually passes over, these freezes are usually combined with a "tick" sound from the disc drive [d:\, a sata disc ] , sometimes but not all the time winxp reboots. i've tracked this in the event viewer and got this message :

at first I thought this to be a hardware errror, but its seems many peeps across the net had this error, but I havn't seem any solutions for it yet ...
atleast none that you fix my problem

does any one in here have any ideas what to do ?

ohh yes and according to winxp's virtual mem manager I shouldn't have any paging files on that drive

You only should have a paging file on your primary drive. That's just a paging error, I can't say for sure what it is as that's just as obscure as any other M$ problem. But first I'd suggest check their knowledge base as it's usually pretty good.

In the meantime though the next best thing to try is to delete and recreate your paging file. Then just to be on the safe side defrag and scandisk, I doubt that will make a difference but it's worth doing anyway.

i did set the paging file as system managed, and it's on my primary drive (boot/winxp, c:\)
and i have only 1 paging file as far, as i can see.


in the MS knowledge database i got this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;244780)
but i must say that i still don't have a have a clue what to do about it ...

I got the same message when I tried to install a s-ata disk on my abit At7 MaxII card... return the disk as a RMA, just installed the new the disk... and I get the same message??

I solved a similar message by updating the chipset drivers of MB controlling the IDE, and of course uninstalling the disk drivers from devicemanager, reboot, go to disk in device manager, got message from there to reboot again, after which message was gone. :jelly:

That's true, unless you have Service Pack 1 or above installed.

My similar problem returned after installing SP2 from CD.

I uninstalled the Intel Application Accellerator, and re-installed the latest one for my 845E chipset again....Problem solved :jelly:
Myne is ver2.3.0.2160

You must concentrate on your chipset drivers/+IAA. :drinkup:

Thats compete B.S. You would want a paging file on every seperate disk. It works even on seperate partitions but every disk should have one for best performance. XP will actually page to the disk with the least current I-O.

Normally I'd agree with you but I've seen problems with windows in a SATA environment before when having more then one page file. Never had that problem before with multiple page files using IDE only seen them using SATA.

There is no advantage to having them on multiple partitons on the same physical drive. But there is advantagous to having them on seperate physical disks.

SATA is still somewhat immature and you might witness some probs but thats more a matter of sata driver/firmware problems as they seem to still be getting problems shook out on several of the sata platforms.

I made a decission: I dished Intel Application Accelerator!

The influence of IAA: I proved the following:

To make the PC work,....

1-Disable HT, but then P4 runs 10c with cooling hotter...

2-Uninstall IAA.

3-Disable IDE2....If IDE2 is disabled, it also works 100%[Without CDROM & DVD]

After uninstalling literaly every possible thing from Device Manager and re-installing, I decided removing IAA was the best option. It clearly has a problem with IDE, effecting boot progress & prevent stuff from loading properly. If it hesitates on boot, I know the fault is on, after which the PC feels sluggish.

After uninstalling IAA this time, XP re-installed a newer version[2003] of chipset drivers, unlike previously[2001], so uninstalling the HAL etc, may have made the diff.
It boots right/smooth & feels right now.

Note:I have looked at my work PC[Dell], and there is no IAA installed either.

After 100's of reboots, I still did not reformat, and all is still in tact. I must say I gained some serious respect for XP-PRO/SP2.

IAA or most accelerators are things that normally should be avoided. If they work great but generally they won't give you any significant speed boost and most of the time they'll make things worse. Most of them are advanced caching tricks that are still using up clock cycles to run.
