Is the "For IT and Administrator" download the same as ordering the cd. What I mean is, you ONLY get sp2 with the cd right, they don't have one cd with all the xp updates, and the cd doesn't have anything more than the 266mb "IT/Administrator" download? There also is no cd you can order that gives you the minor critical updates is there? I know there is sp1a and sp2.

ya just download the sp2 for IT professionals, its self-extracting and u can ditribute it easyer among multiple cpus, it says to use the express for 2 cpus but why spend twice the time downloading when u could be intalling it.

Microsoft is screwy...

Anyway, do the service packs contain all the little critical updates, too? So, if I downloaded sp2 or ordered it on cd would I get all the previous critical updates?

The CD includes SP1 also as far as I knowI waited for SP2-CD and then took following precautions: :fold:
>Cloned a spare disk with Norton Gost 2003
1-scan with Spybot
2-Scan with Adaware
3-scan with NAV
4-Clean registry with NSW-2004.
5-I then deleted all prefetch files & reboot twice, then disable/enable System restore.
6-The go Start-Run-msconfig, disable all at startup, hide all MS Services and disabled the rest of them, and rebooted.
7-I the defragged the disk and rebooted.
8-I then installed SP2 from CD.......20min.
>>>No problems, except for the following minor ones:
1-Had to "enable" Windows Media Player for each user[8x], to make it work[Remember shortcut option]
2-When logging out and in to another user, internet is cut off....Just corrected the setting...Network connections-Properties-Advanced..."Allow other network....."=Check.
3-Lost my scrolbar on Welcome screen[8x users]..Regained it by unchecking Welcome screen option, reboot & and recheck it again + fast user switching.
4-Deleted prefetch files again & reboot twice.
5-The disk was left in a great mess, so I defragged again.
>>>I am using both firewalls[+NIS 2004] at moment, like before, without problems so far. :jelly:

Microsoft is not really that smart but they have come up with a great plan for network admins. The funny part is it works great with single users also.

Now if you like to download the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Please go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en

Now if you like to be really smart and not order the windows xp sp 2 cd here is another great link to slipstream windows xp cd so you have it on one cd so you can just use that next time you clean up your computer without having to wait for the extra 30mins to install:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm

Please save your money and time with just fallowing these small steps and you will get far.

ChemicalChild, Got mine at Office Max for free too. They had them setting on the customer service desk. You just take one. I'm sure there are other stores doing the same. Just make sure you run your Windows updates after install! Hah! They already have critical patches to the servicepack 2. What a bugger.
