I am buying a laptop soon, and I'm not quite what sure to get. I have 1,100 to spend plus or minus a few tens. I DO want a widescreen if possible, Pentium M is a must, and Ram should be 512. Here is a possiblity:

About everything except gaming and DV editing/Photo editing. So school, programming (VB.Net, god help me), massive downloading/torrenting, etc.
I would prefer not to get a dell. Once, I did, and it never came, so I was all like :yell1: and they were all :bawling: and im all :shoot: and they were all  and now im all

Wow. The Winbook C Series is incredibly well priced. I've also heard very good things about winbook. Anyone had any experience with them?

do u know those the manufacterer of it?
I manage over 500 PC's and I am the main Laptop guy. I suggest the Dell Latitude D505 or the Dell D800. I've bought over 20 laptop's over the past 2 years and never missed a one. But, I know, you rather not buy from Dell....
Either way, Intel Pentium M CPU with Intel's Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 is a must... (that also qualifies the laptop to be labeled a Centrino™). Compaq (HP) has a few that are not bad... The one below is a Compaq V2000 (wide screen).
I had to trim the hard drive down to a 40 GB, WinXP HOME, and the less bright screen.... Saved a few bucks... Below is another version, but it's over the price you stated...
I have a recent Toshiba, 1.6M, FX5200 mobile, 512 RAM, nice wide BRIGHT screen, seems to be well made and is fast. Might be a few bux over your budget but the Toshibas are worth a look.
I'm actually surprised the FX5200 is pretty reasonable. Doom3 is a slideshow but WOW beta ran real pretty and fast.
One note on Toshiba's... I've had a few stop in my office to get re-installed and these Toshiba's came with recovery CD's instead of a Windows install CD and a driver CD... No way to load another version of the operating system with out doing some research on drivers.... other than that, they do seem to be fairly peppy for the price...
