View Full Version : Rebuilt engine pricing.
OK, All you motorheads out there. I've got a 92 Ford Bronco 4x4 full sized with the Eddie Bower package. It has the Ford 351 Windsor engine in it, 5.0 liter. Full replacement price for a completely rebuilt engine w/ 3 Yr/75,00.00 mi warranty is $3002.00 & tax. That includes installation by my mechanic. What do you guys think of the price. I've checked around the net and come up very close to the same price. My mech builds racecars for a hobby and i've known him for a long time, So I know, he knows what he's doing. That price came from Jasper Motors (http://www.jasperengines.com/media/findbot.gif) , and of course my mech's price is included in the total. It's total of $850 for taking out the old and putting in the new. Give me some input guys. I've got till Monday to decide which company I'm going to go with.

jasper is a good name, stick with them if you really like them.
the 3002 + tax seems a little steep, even with the warenty, see if you can get it cut down a little, dont force anything down his throat, its not a bad price.
labor+kit+warrenty= big bucks

I don't think that is to bad of a price really. I mean if he knows what he is doing, then it is better to pay a little more so you don't have any worries.

The 351W is actually a 5.8L
The 5.0L is a 302..
And 3k is about right, and Jasper is a decent rebuilt engine.. I think a 351 crate would cost like 3 grand by itself... and instalation is what always gets you.. so I'd do it

why do you need a new one... toast the original?
Thnx guys, For all the input. Hehe, Rot Katze-- my bad typo, your right it's 5.8L. Went to sooo many sights yesterday, my eyes were crossing. The reason I'm putting in another engine is-- I got the bronco with 57,000 mi on it and the previous owner never changed the oil when he should have. Now, even after I've changed it every 3,000 mi, and it has 144,000 now, the oil ports are all pretty much closed up to the point where it's forcing the oil to fill the passenger side valve cover and sucking oil through to the exhaust. Big cloud of smoke coming out. Two rear plugs are starting to foul with oil also. Etc. Mech says it's better to replace it than to try to rework it especially with the blocked oil ports all through the engine.. Which I know he wouldn't steer me wrong. And this is my workhorse & my baby. I'm working on restoring it. Bodywork and paint come next to finish it up.

Well, i work in auto parts...i can find out a basic price for you, depending on if you want a long block or a shortblock
Shortblocks contain the crank pistons cam but no heads intake waterpump oil pan or any of the stuff that bolts onto said objects.
Longblocks "usually" have the oilpan heads full valvtrain except valve covers..but basically the same as the shortblock only with the heads.
Now personally i would choose a long block, because ifyou get a new block and bottem end..the top end (heads) will probably take a crap shorty after. But thats just with my experiences.. if you do it. Do it right. Basically everything that isn't on a longblock all you ahve to do is swap over from your old setup. like intake manifold, exhaust manifolds/headers water pump and anything else that seems to be missing.
Thnx MR, Got with the mech and we decided to go with Jasper rebuilt engines. Link in top thread. Appreciate the help though. I think the mech already has it delivered. I'm in central Fla and he said his Jasper supplier in Orlando had one in stock. Went with the longblock. 351 Windsor 5.8L. Seems Jasper does a real thorough rebuild with performance parts.
