Hi everyone.

My pc has an ITE IT8705F mother board, 1.3Ghz processor, 512MB SDRAM, integrated video w/64MB, and 80 GB hard drive. I would like to upgrade the processor to at least 2.0 Ghz and need information on how to locate data or specs to know what the motherboard will handle. Any information on this would beg greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Steve

First of all, is it Intel or AMD? And if you know that than what kind is it? What kind as in Pentium 3, Pentium 4, Celeron, AMD Duron, AMD Athlon.

It is an AMD Duron. Sorry about that.

some of the newer procs (i know this is the case with abit boards) may require a newer mobo version, check with you manufacturer on what procs your mobo version will support. you can check the version # on the board or it will flash at the bottom of your screen during boot up

Okay, a 1.3 ghz duron. I personally own one of these and know that it is a socket a type cpu. It should be a 200mhz fsb. Now the question is how much can your motherboard handle? If your motherboard can only handle 200mhz front side bus than 1.3 ghz is your limit. If it can handle 266fsb than I know durons were also made in 1.6 and 1.8ghz speeds. I am not sure about the equivalent Athlons however, which are basically the higher end durons, similar to a pentium to a celeron.

You should look up in the manual, or visit the motherboard's site to find out what front side bus your motherboard supports. 200mhz may mean you need to look at upgrading a different way, but 266mhz should allow you some new cpu choices.

Its a waste of time since mdb advancements come along too.
1.3 to 2.0 is not worth "throwing A 1.3 IN THE TRASH and flashing the bios then adding a new cpu etc.$$$$
Relax and upgrade both mbd and cpu.

That's what I have decided to do. Purchase a mobo that supports IP IV cpu.

They have given me great support.Note this,
usb 2 drivers come from Intel if you have their cpu.
Get everything working then go to,either or.
