Any of you guys and gals know or remember how to remagnetize screwdrivers, wrenches etc.? I used to watch my father do it yrs ago when I was a little guy. But, I don't remember how he did it. Thought one of our brilliant crew of members here might have the answer. Thnx in advance friends.

one way you can do it is to get any kind of magnet and then stroke it along in one direction (like you're whittling a stick). after a number of strokes you'll see the item has become magnetized :)

Thank you very much my friend. That definitely gets some of the charge back into the screwdrivers. It's a pain when the screwdriver won't hold the screw. ;)

wrap a wire around it and then connect it to a car battery. That should just about do it.

i just have a little magnatizer/demagnatizer tool that does it, basically a ring shaped magnet.

That's the type of magnets I used as a matter of fact. Got the charge back in them pretty good.

Mr. LIN mentioned the easiest way to do it

just make sure not to drop it, or hit it hard, it will lose some of its charge

I also wouldn't recomend using an elecro-magnetic screw driver for any sort of computer work - very - very bad mojo

I wouldn't use an electro-magnetic screwdriver on a pc. The basic idea behind an electromagnet is extremely simple: By running electric current through a wire, you can create a magnetic field.
By using this simple principle, you can create all sorts of things, including motors, solenoids, read/write heads for hard disks and tape drives, speakers, and so on.
But I would and do use screwdrivers with magnetic tips. Theres' so little magnetic charge in them, there's no way they could clear your HD or do damage to your parts. Possibly if you hold the magnetic tip down on a component for a time, you might be able to produce some kind of result. But, Other than doing that you wouldn't harm your pc. I've used magtip screwdrivers 12 yrs on pc's and never had a problem. It's just so much easier to put screws in when the tip is holding on to them for placement.
