You got that right. I got a new job :o

Well actually, I have to decide which one to accept. I got two offers.

1. IT Specialist - awesome benefits (training & education), 15% matching 401k, excellent pay, 5 miles from home. I'd be doing PHP coding & database administration, and acting as a backup systems administrator.

2. Jr. Systems Administrator - meh/standard benefits, awesome staff of geeks, free sodas. This position would have me learning Cold Fusion & Flash to do web developing (they don't use PHP :( ), assisting the senior Sys Admins and it's also 5 miles from home. The pay is less than the IT Specialist position... the same as what I made doing executive support :( Although I'd love to work with fellow geeks, the benefits just suck and pay is alright. They can't increase, unfortunately :firemat:

sounds like a no-brainer. coldfusion is a dinosaur, and if the pay is better at 1, i say go for it.

One can learn many tricks from fellow geeks. But it is also refreshing to not be working with geeks, to be the one and only geek at your job :)

Job 1 pay is better and you'd be doing what you already know - php and database administration. I'd go for that - doing what you know for the right cash.

On another note, IT Specialist sounds better than Jr. Systems Administrator.

Normally I'd say go with a job where you'll enjoy going to work. So job number 2 could be an entertaining day so the money may not be as important. However working with geeks can get tiring, especially if they are bigger geeks then you. So with that go with job number 1. It'll do you better in the long run.

Pretty awesome when you get to choose. Like girlfriends...hmm, which one? (We should all be so lucky). Being 2 new offers, it's probably difficult to tell which one you'd be most happy at, but I agree with Kryst 100% when he says that's important. Sure money is good, but it loses it's appeal when you wake up dreading work on Monday. Besides, if it's something you're passionate about, you'll do really well at it, and the money aspect will come.

Go with your gut. Perhaps the one with the best benefits and money is also the one to make you most happy.
