WOW! My exact thought.....
.....EEEEKKK!! Just realized I've been hanging around Thrax too much, starting to think like him..... Hope this isn't catch.... *gasp...... We are the THRAX, resistance is futile.......
We are the Thrax. Resistance is futile. Your cultural and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own.

We are the Thrax. Resistance is futile. Your cultural and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own.BUT... as you indicated above, you in fact must assimilate that logo into your collective. That means you now contain a neon pink 1980's barf art... THAT will be the downfall of the THRAX...
The worlds plan has worked... the THRAX will begin to fail. Next step... dressing like a fairy with green tights... Oh wait, THRAX has already done that!!! ;D

I'll be honest, it looks like the design company were lacking idea's for the new logo and during a bring your child to work day a 2yr old scribbled it on the back of a memo. Nice to see my Tax £'s being well spent :)
But then again i could be wrong

If you look at it from a diffrerent angle it magically reveals the message it's supposed to convey :)

No! The Olympic Games epitomise the amateur athlete... oh except they're been mostly professionals for years!

I think its pretty rubbish to be honest.
Firstly - being a Londoner - why on earth does London not get a capital L - ffs! - That's just wrong!
Also if I was a 'youth' that they were trying to appeal to I may be offended- like they can only appeal to young people by defying the rules of the English language?!!
The classic logo they had with the London in caps and the ribon kinda weaving thru looked far nicer.
Hella funny that they had to take the animated version off their site as it causes people to have fits! (well funny in one way but obviously very bad and a total cock up in another)

Yes! the logo is a total cock up!
Btw, what exactly does "a total cock up" mean? Sorry, im trying to figure out english slang.

'A total cock-up' would be used to suggest something had gone completly wrong.
Microsoft releasing vista and discovering their Zune player did not function with it would be an example of a total cock-up
In this context I am implying someone 'cocked up' i.e. made a big error by not following the procedure to test the logo to insure it would not enduce fits (aparantly there's a machine they can feed it through or something! - was on BBC Breakfast this morning lol)

Normally I try to look on the bright side of things, but I've tried - and that logo honestly does just plain suck.

Ok so let me know if I get this right. Should Paris Hilton have told the judge that she totally cocked up and got caught driving under the influence? Maybe then she wouldn't be sent to Jail.
Can you use it like that? I believe cock-up may be a post hoc recognition of events. Not a verb, so much as an adjective.

Hmmm... I didn't even figure out until I read the BBC article that it's supposed to be the number 2012... It's that bad...

According to Coudal's "defense", I just made a great logo:
http://icrontic.com/images/prime/ic2012.gif
The whole "reproducibility" argument is, frankly, BS. The logo sucks and if you paid me to come up with 10 reasons why it's good, I could come up with that exact same list. It sounds like "justification via hindsight" to me...

It cost £400,000. That's probably a bargain for an incredibly high-profile complete graphic identity system for an international company/event designed by experienced professionals. Anyone valuing the importance of design should give that argument a rest, too. We wouldn't have taken the job for a shilling less.
Honestly I could draw a better logo with My Balls! and I would take £400,000 to do it publicy...

EDIT// glad they didn't use the "chinese takeout" font for beijing on that logo.

I don't see what all the fuss is about to be honest.
Think the only memorable Olympic logo ever was the one from Bacelona 92...

The mere fact that the Coudal partners had to come up with such a list of reasons to defend the logo after initially being shocked by what they saw speaks for itself.
A logo like this would work better as a label for hazard chemicals or toxic waste to keep people away rather than being used to invite people to an event like the Olympic games

There may be lots of high minded artsy and/or technical justifications for the logo, but I saw the BBC do street interviews and the "common muck" of London pretty much universally abhorred it. Aren't these the opinions that count?

Makes you wonder just how many people voted for a "yeah" or "ney" on the logo when it was being made... or if it was even voted for?
I am being lead to believe the designer of this logo got his first job ever with this project.

Sit on a copy machine and e-mail it in to the IOC- they may take it anyhow for the 2020 games for more without the public embarrassment :) .
