Ok, I got this message on myspace after three days of registering (my friends are always trying to show me crap on there so I figured I might as well):

Hello, how are you? I'd like to meet a nice, cute and hard working guy who enjoys being around a woman. I just got out of a long relationship (about four years), so I'm only looking for something casual. About me: I'm very cute, a bit stubborn and outgoing. I do some sports, I like biking and tennis. I'm also into stuff like NASCAR and soccer.

I hope you're interested, send me a shout, but don't respond directly to the message. I'm borrowing the account from my best friend ;-) Please use my private E-mail instead: kate_lasseto@yahoo..

Thank you and have a great day!

Ok, I thought I just got my first myspace hookup offer type thing. yipee..right?

I sent her an email to feel it out:

hey, whats going on? I guess if you read my profile then you already know a little bit about me. I'm going off to college at the end of august and I am really just looking to have fun until then. But yeh, get back to me and we can talk. Thanks, Andy

and here's what I got back:

Hello Andy! I'm glad that you wrote. I'm Kate, I forgot to mention it in my message to you on my space. So, how you doin'? I am fine (in case you are wodering. lol) I'm just slowly trying to get myself out of bed. (I'm sooo lazy on my day off, lol)? Today is my only, "technical" day off.

Anyways. What cha doin? What cha like to do? You know, the usual 50 questions. lol. As for me, we're planning a party next weekend, me and my friends. We do it about once a month. Hey come and join us! It would be fun.

Anyways, My Space seemed cool, but I notice how much time my friend spends on it, and how much time I spent on it when she showed it to me, and I'm afraid I might end up wasting away in front of it instead of being out doing stuff. So I don't think I'll post a profile just yet, I'll just continue to use my friends if I need to, hopefully I won't, ;) . (That was her account that I messaged you from btw, in case you havent already realized.)

I have my page you can check out, http://www.perfectparkhost.com/kate_rocks so you can see what I look like, and you can even get to know more about me. It's kinda like the artisic side of me.

Let me know if you wanna talk more. And let me know if you want to come to our party. That would be really cool. All I do is usually work and stay home during the days, but weekend nights, I'm usually out with my girl friends. Maybe, if you'd like, we can also meet up for coffee or drinks or somethin' when we both get some free time...?

Anyways, I'm gonna get goin'. I think I'll get off my lazy ass now and call my Mom. I'll ask her what she wants to do for Mothers Day comming up. Or maybe I'll just soak in the tub for an hour or two. Oh well... either way, write back soon! and take care!

xoxo ~ Kate

Is anyone else calling shenanigans on this? It just seems a little too textbook, and she referred to Mother's Day...that was almost a month ago. I think I may follow this and just see how deep the rabbits hole goes.

Just don't be surprised if her account has been deleted in a few days (if it hasn't already).

Well, she said 'I borrowed the account from a friend' so I'm wondering if she hijacked someones account....dunno. I sent her an email back and we shall see what I get back. I'm having fun with this. its like checkers.

I receive that exact same message about once a month on Myspace, always from a different account...

I've never responded to see what happens, but I'm sure I'd get that same second letter in response...

Quite likely her third or fourth message will tell you about the bible music site that she sings for, and if you would like to hear her sing, she would like to know what you think... Unfortunately, you have to pay for the site, as she's not allowed to give discounts or free access to anyone at all...

sorry, but i just find it really really weird finding dates/hook-ups on the internet. I don't know if I'd ever be able to do that, I'd just feel like a huge dork if i met my girlfriend on myspace or facebook.

I can imagine it already

child: dad, where'd you meet mommy?

father: Umm, well you see, theres this uhhhh.....thing called myspace. Your mother sent me a personal message and we cybered for a while, and then we finally met.

Meeting someone through a personal service, and responding to anon. messages on MySpace or IM are completely different things. MySpace is not really meant for 'matchmaking' and it sucks at it.

On the other hand, a website that is intended for matchmaking can be a big help to people who are shy, don't drink, can't be around smoke, are agoraphobic, or any other reason that people have for not going out to places where people hook up.

I used Yahoo! Personals myself, and though I had to go through several very bad dates, I did find a nice girl eventually... Then I married her... and if we have children, I don't think I'll feel awkward telling them about it... I would feel awkward if we met in a bar, and had to tell that story...

well, the part that fooled the hell out of me is the girl that sent it said she was from enid. and enid is a fairly (who am I kidding, it is) small town that I wouldn't think that you'd claim to be from unless you are. Anyway, I picked up on it right away. Now I'm just going to have some fun with the spammer. I pretty much asked her where the party was and thats it. What can I say, I'm bored.

I did find one use for myspace though. There was a kid that was a friend of mine from the summer before sixth grade till the summer after ninth. He moved down to yukon after that and we only talked one other time when I went down to visit, after that we lost touch. So I was just messing around and typed in his name. Low and behold there he was, so I was a little estatic to find my best friend of four years after a few of no contact. Pretty awesome thing.

I used Yahoo! Personals myselfI am glad it worked for you. No need to be defensive. This thread is about MySpace. Completely different.

Andy, whatever that thing is that contacted you, it can't be good.

Take it elsewhere, guys. We try to be a site where a broad swath of people are comfortable.

That is all. Carry on.

Well, I sent an email being very blunt and straight forward. I simply asked where the party was and no reply yet.

FWIW, there's an age registry log in at the bottom of the page she linked. That's for porn sites.

I just looked at her profile and she changed her location to some place in Missouri. So I am filing this under spam. I reported *it*. Damn spammer didn't even let me have any fun with him/her.
