End of the HD DVD vs Blu-ray wars?

Rental giant Blockbuster Video has announced that starting next month, its stores will offer Blu-ray discs for video rental. When a major retailer adopts a single format, other companies take notice. If there is anyway I can not give money to Sony, I am all for it. That means supporting HD-DVD.

And pretty much every other video and audio device made in the past 30 years that were much superior but never got adopted because of the the cost and Sony's horrible business practices. They finally got it right with the PS and PS2 but have gone back to their old trends with the PSP, PS3 and Blu-Ray.

I wonder what backroom dealing was involved to get Blockbuster to do that... you know damn well Blockbuster didn't go "oh gee let's just choose this one" on its own. Video stores got burned hardcore when Beta died.

I think in the end both will win... there is just to many of each player on the market. and each format is starting to make cash. I use to care, but now I just use both :)

Yea I'm with sledge on this one..I don't think either is gonna win/die/rule supreme. I do suspect once the "new" standard hits they will die then. There is just too many devices/companies/services using both right now.

Toshiba already has one... but is priced at $1200

The new tool is dual format disc's. These cost just a few bucks more currently and have both formats. Once mass produced they will be cheap and will push both formats forward.

I just hope something happens soon. I don't have a Blu-ray player, and there a quite a few movies in that format I want to get.

I loved my laserdisc player. I had Empire Strikes Back on laserdisc. It weighed about 4 pounds. IT WAS AWESOME. THIS WAS in 1994
