I got a free a 2005 Maxtor diamondback 10 HDD that has been used as a slave in a friends PC but recently the PC died from a shortage i believe.

Symptoms: High pitched noise
and I squeezed the HDD a little and I could hear the disks hitting something.

will this cause the PC to run slower? because compared to my old HDD, which I still have, runs incredibly smooth compared to this one.

I think I'd use it to prop my door open...
Don't trust it!

I'd use it to sight in a rifle, as long as it was larger than a 20cal. Well, a .223'd punch through it, I'd wager.

Don't trust it!What he said. My experience that series of hard drives is not good all. Two of two lived only short lives. The description you gave of the symptoms leads me to recommend that you quickly back up any valuable data on that drive and/or replace the drive.
