I like to use VLC player for all video formats. It doesn't drop frames as much as WMP or freeze as much especially for HD formats.
I think VLC supports all formats except Real.

I hate iTunes,
I second that itunes uses WAY to much ram for what its doing.
Windows media player uses too much ram too.
VLC for pretty much everything...

I use Media Player Classic for everything, VLC is also very good, try them both if you have not already.

I haven't used WMP as my primary since 98SE.
For audio, I use iTunes. The library is nice for all the music I have and I carry an iPod. For video, GOM Player (http://www.gomplayer.com/main.html) > *. 'nuff said. ;)

VLC for Video and Audio(excellent for Flac) and/or MusikCube for Audio.
Also WMP is decent if you load up on codecs.
Personally I despise I-Tunes - I hate the extra space it takes when converting files to it's format.

I hate WMP - always falls out of sync, crashes... it is poo.
I posted a similar question a while back and was turned onto the joy that is JETAUDIO
Oh man, so much better - hope you find the same love I did.

Actually I prefer winamp, I have for five years. You should give it a shot.
