GT3 !!!! mmmm

I see this kinda stuff all day and every day though. I work here: www.kaminari.com

Today a customer came to look at racing seats in his new Volvo R (300hp AWD), we finished a prototype front bumper for our Mitsu Lancer Evo VIII and I dropped off our Dodge SRT-4 after test fitting our enw carbon fiber hood. So yeah ... I like those games. NFS Underground looks cool (not cause its a 2F2F ripoff, but because the graphics look cool) and Rockstar is workin on Midnight Club 3, some of our kits will be in it (we got free stickers and games!!).

I've played GT1 for PS1 alot, loved that game, wish I could get it for the PC! Just picked up Formula 1 Challenge 99-02 awsome game! RalliSport Challenge came in today, that's going to be a hard game to learn, the car dosent drive right.... Collen McRae 2 should be here soon. I bought the Logitec MOMO Settring Wheel and Pedals Monday, very nice.....

NO!

Well, depends on your definition of "rice".

We manufacture body kits, wings and hoods. Its how you apply them that turns it into rice. Our kit designs are based off the existing body lines on a car. We don't make WIDE MOUTH STREET FIGHTER EVO flashy twisty sharp edged crap.

A car can have custom bumpers/sideskirts without being rice. Our company is against street racing. We were offered to be in 2F2F but declined. We don't want to be associated with "rice" or "street racers" we are more concerned with quality, saftey and style.

*smacks TheBaron* how DARE you call us RICE! :P

croc_... looks like rice to me! ;) ;D

I like Gran Turismo. the Need For Speed series are probably the best simulations you can get as a consumer at the time they come out. I've found the car physics in them to be very accurate for the time period they were produced in. In NFS: HP2, in fact, if you replace the M5's specs with the specs for my car ('86 Mercedes 560SEL), the performance is basically identical to the real-world performance of the car.

I'll probably buy Underground. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE riced out cars, and most of the cars on there aren't worth driving, but the graphics are apparently great, and the physics should be as well, so I'll probably just put up with the cars.

I watched/own all the anime. I haven't actually played the game, but I have seen it played, and I WANT to play. There is an arcade about 25 miles from me with a few setup, I might drive down there when I have time jsut to play it.

There was a game I played in vegas a few weeks back, it was some drifting game, SOO fun .. had a little e-brake for better slides too haha .... too bad the shifter was broken, and when I shifted from 4th-5th, it went down to 3rd THEN 5th, so I never got to win a race, closest I came was 3rd =(

Been playing Need For Speed: Underground today, its quite fun but the races seem VERY repetative to me, granted the layout of the courses change but at least so far, this is all based in the same areas making the scenery very repetative.

Controls seem good, not tried turning off auto weight balance yet to know how realistic it gets though :)

Have a pic of medium setting (ti4200 :P):

Bahhh, far from it. Go try Grand Prix Legends, thats as close as you'll ever get to the real deal on a console or PC and nothing has EVER came close. MotoGP is surprisingly good with its physics and such when you turn up the reality, and Rallisport is one of the best racing games around (Far superior to NFS IMHO)

I find the NFS series to be the absolute worst in terms of cars, handling, and fun. Never liked any of their stuff much. (Although, haven't played underground yet, we'll see if that changed if I ever get around to it and stop playing Project Gotham 2).

edit// Sorry, NFS is second worst. The test drive series is the absolute worst.

I've found that the Miata is the best car in the game (overall), once you have access to the level 2/3 mods. It handles far better than anything else in the game, to the point where you can go around corners 20mph+ faster than you could in say, the Skyline.

However, it's also too lightweight to be easy to drive that fast; above 160mph, it gets unsettled really, really easily, and it's not easy to drive with the keyboard (my wheel's ps is broken...).

The Skyline is the car that I end up using most, though, since it's not much slower than the Miata, and it's heavy enough that it responds relatively slowly, which makes it easier for me to drive with the keyboard...

The Miata is great for drift tracks, tho. So, in point of fact, is the Subaru, but the Miata is better, if you can control it. Your best bet with drift tracks (at least with the keyboard... when I get my wheel fixed, I'll see if it's any different) is to use the miata, but dump the turbo, and back down the other engine/drivetrain mods to level 1 or stock, but leave the suspension and tires at the highest level you have available.

Thrax
1 Dec 2003, 4:49am
Haven't unlocked the Eclipse eh?

It's heavier than the Miata, has better acceleration, top end, and handling. Takes corners like a rocket, rocks in drag, drift, and general course-use.

I switch it out with the S2000 when the tracks are fairly straight.

rrrrrrrrr, the Infiniti G35 IS the stripped down Nissan Skyline. Have u seen the 4-wheel drive version that is due this winter? better go check those back issues of Super Street and Sport Compact Car... and NO it is not the Fairlady 350Z

ze_merovingian
1 Dec 2003, 5:02am
aight then, check this out... the g35 was just sent to US as a test, did well enough to send us ANOTHER stripped down ride that will wear GT-R badges... calling it the Skyline (lite)... argh! I would never claim to call the g35 a g34, nuh uh!!!

Geeky1
1 Dec 2003, 5:10am
Thrax, I've unlocked the Eclipse, and I don't like it all that much. I've found that the Miata handles far better. But then, like I said... I'm stuck on the keyboard. When I get my wheel fixed (which will be whenever I get around to getting a PS for it) I'll try it again, but so far, I don't like it much.

ze_merovingian, I'm not quite sure what you're saying. the Infiniti G35/Nissan 350Z is a totally different car from the R34 Skyline. They aren't built on the same chassis, and they share no parts AFAIK (But I don't keep track of Nissan's stuff all that well); The Skyline is an outstanding car. The G35/350Z, on the other hand... as far as I'm concerned, they're overweight, underperforming excuses for sports cars. They're decent GTs, but they do not qualify as sports cars, and they're kind of ugly to boot.

Sigh, what a complete waste of time Xenosaga was. I took me forever to beat because I was stuck near the end and couldn't beat a boss. It made little sense and the ending was horrible. It was like watching some show on tv and having them place a to be continued crap in it during the middle of the show. Xenogears, although a little on the old side, was a hell of a lot better. I think it's just because they are trying to not violate the copyright Square-Enix has on Xenogears that made Xenosaga suck... or maybe it could have been the endless cutscene after cutscene and little gameplay....

anyways i might get underground, what systems is it on?

Have you drifted the Celica? I personally love to drift the Celica because it gets ass out so easy. With a bit of practice, you can constantly get it to swing over the white lines for long slides and rack up serious points.

You're totally right about the Miata. It handles great but when it gets even a love tap from another car it spins out like a beast. That and the Miata's 5th gear isn't that great. We dropped it in favor of the RSX because it doesn't flip out when you tap stuff and it drags really well.

In my game, I'm still loving the Puegot. It's a fun car, but it oversteers like nobody's business.

Geeky1
1 Dec 2003, 7:16am
The Celica is better than the RSX, IMO. The RSX's gearing is too tall. Who cares if it can do 200MPH? It'll never reach that speed on any of the tracks in the game (at least I haven't seen it).

I can't recall drifting in it very much... I don't use front wheel drive cars for drifting as a general rule (fwd usually = understeer; understeer = bad). RWD is best just in terms of sheer oversteer capabilities, but the problem that I've encountered is that drifting with the keyboard requires that I pay a lot of attention to where I'm going, with the result being that I neglect the speedometer and shifting (I've had to use an auto for drifting), which is a bad thing because it means I have a tendency to run into stuff. A lot. Usually hard. This is exacerbated by a high-power RWD car; the miata in a stock state of engine tune with an upgraded suspension/tire package performs very well; the Subaru, as stated, actually will pull itself out of bass-ackward slides far better than any other car in the game, including the other 4wd cars (Skyline, Eclipse, maybe the 206... not sure about that one)

So basically, what I've found is:
General use:
Skyline or Miata are your best choices

Drift tracks:
Miata, RX-7, Supra, Subaru, possibly the S2000 (haven't tried it), the 206, the RSX and the Celica all do well; the Miata is the best choice, tho.

For the Skyline/Infiniti discussion:

Nissan Skyline V35 / Infiniti G35
http://www.jbskyline.net/V35/Sedans/V35%20Silver%20front%20left.jpg

Introduced on June 15th, 2001, the Skyline V35 series marks a radical step away from previous Skylines with extensive changes in the design and engineering departments. The new car is available in four versions: 300 GT, 250 GT, 250 GT Four and 250 Gte, with the 250GTe being the least expensive model and the 300GT marking the top of the line. Nissan finally plans to bring the Skyline to international markets, where it is to compete against the Lexus IS 300, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class primarily in the form of the Infiniti G35. Thus, originality and quality were high on the list of requirements for the new series. As a result, the rather edgy design of the R34 series was dropped in favor of a design with smooth and understated lines and an ultra low drag-co-efficient (cd) of 0.27. Shorter front- and rear-over-hangs make for a more dynamic appearance. With 4675mm of length and a wheel-base of 2850mm, the V35 is among the biggest cars in its class, although it is about 30mm shorter than its predecessor. Also gone are the characteristic round taillights, which are replaced by something rather BMW-like. Although very different to previous Skyline generations, Nissan hopes the new look will appeal more to young customers and old Skyline-fans alike.

If the I6, twin turbo Skyline came to America (which it won't.. emission laws and all. Not to mention they're fast as %&$#, capable of much more than most American domestic and imported cars), they'd get saturated and wouldn't be all too grand anymore. Skylines deserve to be rare, cause they're just that cool :)

ze_merovingian, my mistake. I apologize. Like I said, I don't keep up with Nissan all that well.

Regardless, I said it when Nissan displayed the Skyline/G35 concept, and I'll say again now: A 4 door Skyline is just plain phucked up. Calling the G35 a Skyline is a real good way to alienate a lot of people (myself included). The R34 was an awesome car. The new one is, uh, not.

MR-2. Mid-engine, lightweight, fairly fast.

The SVT is *almost* a joke. I don't like regular mustangs all that much, and except for the new supercharged Cobra, the SVT version isn't all that much better.

The Evo is just too heavy and unbalanced to keep up with the MR-2

which is best, Toyota prototype race vs F1 car on gt3?

panzerkw
18 Dec 2003, 2:42am
Like I said, nothing can touch any of the F1 cars, even the super Le Mans cars (Toyota GT-One, Nissan R390, Mazda 787B, etc).

Not counting the F1 cars, which are in a class by themselves, the Toyota F1 is probably the 2nd fastest car in the game behind the 787B.

EDIT: Probably THE fastest car in the entire game is the F094/S, a stunning F1 car that I also believed has the highest resale value in the game ($875,000). Once you master this beast even the other F1 cars are cake in Formula GT. It does take a little time to get it though because it's touchy. But that touchiness is what makes it so fast on the circuit.

Top speed wise it can't hang really (mine maxes out at 215MPH on a circuit setup) but it can make turns 20-50MPH faster than any other non-F1 car, and it's acceleration is amazing.

More EDIT:

Just to show an example, I'm gonna take my Toyota GT One and F094/S on Tokyo R246 and show the time differences, brb

I cant wait to win a F1 racer... my cousin said the thing u did, "... nothing can touch you in a F1..." I used to have F1 championship for PS1... long time ago.

I like the WRX, but I love the Skyline... love at first drive in GT1... but I lust the Porsche 911 turbo!:rarr:

hmmmm, very interesting... must try a F1.

ok, American rides... viper vs vette?

I did some quick 5 lap races at Tokyo R246 with the Toyota GT One and the F094/S,

Both were done with the cars at their stock power settings,

Toyota 651bhp - best 1:29:406 top speed 191mph

F094/S 812bhp - best 1:14:799 top speed 214mph

Viper vs Vette, Viper wins because of it's higher power and cleaner lines, and fatter tires.

Z06. It handles better than the Viper does, and it can be tweaked to about the same horsepower the viper will tweak to.

Hrm, I'm going to have to take both cars to Laguna Seca and see for myself, cause the Z06 should get stomped by the Viper (speaking of the stock vehicles), brb...

I don't think so. I've always liked the Z06 better. It's much happier being driven fast. The viper is fast in a straight line, but turning is a no-go. The Corvette practically lives for corners.

//Edit
You also might try the Mercedes... I don't remember which ones (except the CL600) are in GTA3, but I can tell you this:
Push it really hard, and it'll respond. In my experience, both in real life and in racing simulations, Mercedes respond very well to being pushed. They don't seem like they're as capable as they really are.

However, none of the 'Benzes in the game will keep up with a Z06 or a Viper, I don't think.

vette handles well? pffff, puh_leez. i mean, dont get me wrong, de+roi+ muscle is king... but everytime i raced a viper against a vette in gt3, the viper kicked the snot out of the vette... at laguna, the special stage route courses, test track was close because they both can flat out run... viper is quicker.

Euro rides... not a big fan of the Benz... BMWs are aight... RUF is king!

ze... the vette handles extraordinarily well. Far better, in fact, than the Skyline. The problem is that most people can't control the 'Vette (or the viper, for that matter)

Power-on oversteer is your friend. The problem is that most people have a much harder time controlling oversteer than they do understeer. Learn to get the 'Vette to oversteer in a controlled fashion, and you'll have no trouble keeping up with a Skyline GTR-V.

Ok, Laguna Seca, racing both cars straight from the shop using grip racing:

Corvette Z06: best 1:33.843
Viper GTS: best 1:34.018

Midfield Raceway

Corvette: 1:22.685
Viper: 1:21.951

Conclusion: The Viper didn't stomp on the Corvette. The Corvette is much more agile, but the Viper is a tad faster on acceleration to top speed.

And for giggles, here's the F094/S times:

Laguna: 1:02.851
Midfield: 0:54.952

Untouchable.

Stock, yeah... the Viper is a bit faster. That Corvette will put out like 750hp or more, as I recall (I haven't played GTA3 in a few months). With that kind of power, it's faster than even the race-prepped Vipers.

I have the racing car versions of both the C5 type corvette and the Viper, I'll test those out tomorrow.

Geeky1 and panzerkw, I applaud your outstanding knowledge of my fav game/race series.:respect:

G1, you have hit it right in the head... I must learn how to handle rear wheel drive cars... I usually run with the Supra, RX-7, MR2 turbo, RUF, 300 Fairlady Z... "power without control, is nothing."

also, I just really like being able to drop the hammer on all 4 wheels = skyline love.

panzerkw, nice work with testing the cars, and the data... can't wait to hear the results...

Yeah the only problem with the 4WD is that you get understeer as you accelerate out of the corner. But I just use the VCD device to bias some of the torque into the rear wheels. The Skylines that I have used usually have a 20% 80% bias front/rear. It's enough to give that extra stability but not quite enough to induce all that understeer when you're accelerating out of a corner. The JGTC Skylines (Calsonic, Pennzoil, etc) are all rear wheel drive machines.

Here I tested both racing car versions, Viper Team Oreca and Corvette C5R, I threw in the Camaro Race Car too since I happened to own it. All stock, grip racing.

Laguna Seca

Viper GTS-R Team Oreca (588bhp): 1:18.284
Corvette C5R (610bhp): 1:18.934
Camaro Race Car (592bhp): 1:19.244

Midfield Raceway

Viper: 1:09.632
Corvette: 1:09.770
Camaro: 1:10.420

The Viper and Corvette are evenly matched. They both weight almost the same and the power difference is little. The Viper has fatter tires though (larger tracks from and rear) so it gives it a slight cornering advantage.

The Camaro is just too benign in handling (can't throw it around as much than with the Viper or C5R) to really hang with the other two.

EDIT: Again this is all with stock settings, suspension adjustments would correct the Camaro's faults, and a tighter transmission would allow the C5R to oversteer a bit more. The Viper seems pretty balanced.

I've actually set up my R34 Skyline with a 10% front/90% rear torque bias... and it has ~1000hp. Torque goooooooooooood :D

If you like Skyline's you should get the Calsonic JGTC version.

With stock power of only 461bhp:
Laguna Seca - 1:20.505
Midfield Raceway - 1:11.681

So a car with >100HP less than the American cars is only losing by a couple of seconds on the twisty circuits and a little more where the american cars' higher power lets them get out on the straightaway better. This is even before you've taken it to the tuning shop.

So against lesser racers you could embarass the american cars with a moderately tuned Calsonic Skyline.

The skyline is nice, but it understeers too much for me. My favorite car so far is the Pagani Zonda C12S (or whichever the most expensive non-race-prepped one is)

It's got a Mercedes V12 in it, and fully tuned it's good for >1000hp. It's rear wheel drive, and it's fast as hell. My record is something like 265MPH on the test track. I could go faster, too, but I run out of road. The car is still accelerating @ 265mph

It doesn't oversteer nearly as much as I'd like, so it's handling isn't all that great, but still... Mercedes V12 with 1000HP+ :D

Yet more embarassment for the american GT cars

Castrol Tom's Supra (464bhp)

Laguna Seca - 1:20.085
Midfield Raceway - 1:10.087

EDIT: The Calsonic Skyline is rear wheel drive only (along with all the JGTC cars)

Now I need to get one the NSX JGTC cars and see how they go (ARTA NSX hopefully)
