DVD burning problem

A friend from work asked me if I could help him out.

He has some video recorded on his digital video camera. He has burned the video to a DVD+R on light scribe media. He has done this on a go-video DVD recorder and also tried using Nero on his PC.

The Problem:
When he takes the DVD to another player the video and audio in spot breaks up, or hangs for a second, of gets fuzzy etc. Basically, it does not play well in DVD players. However, if he plays it in his DVD rom drive on the PC it runs fine. What could be the problem?

Other questions
Do DVD+R have a shelf life?
Would using a DVD-R or another format other then +R be more stable?

DVD-R would be more stable; it was designed with set top players in mind. Burning at a slower speed also helps.

What is the difference between +R and -R?

i think its just the difference in dvd players, and most computers can only write on one type, normally +R. I think thats right dont quote me, i'm not that knowledgable in DVD writing etc =I

Most computer can write any type of recordable DVD: +R, -R and -RAM. -R is designed more closely to retail DVDs.
