I really want to overclock my fx5500 PCI 255mb DDR card and i tried using coolbits to do it.

"The GeForce FX 5500 from Point of View with 128-bit 256 MB DDR memory runs at default 270 MHz for the core and 400 MHz (2x200) for it's memory. The 5500 was a marginal overclocker with 280 MHz as core frequency and again 420 MHz for it's memory. This card is not a significant overclocker at all."

that source says that 270/400 is the standard while my standard is only 250 core and 266 memory.....

Nvidia's FX series was... how can I put this slow? Nvidia did not execute properly with this line and had a slew of slow cards compared to ATI's 9x00 series cards. Along with the the FX series was not what we called a great over clocker. With a 64bit to 128bit memory interface built on the NV34 core, it didn't have much to offer...

My first question is does your card have proper power? That would be a reason for the core to run semi slower. Also with drivers it might be set for 2d Mode while 3d Mode which will allow the card to run at full stock clocks.

Don't expect to much of a OC on that chip, and don't be surprised if the core gets very very hot...
