MTV will shut down its digital music service, URGE, and join with Real and Verizon (http://www.betanews.com/article/MTV_Kills_URGE_Joins_Real_on_Rhapsody/1187660823) to promote Real's Rhapsody service, which will now be jointly owned with MTV. The new service will be led by MTV's URGE exec, Michael Bloom.
I'm sure I don't need to say this, but it's quite simply a move to improve their ability to compete with Apple's iTunes.
