Do I need to run Vista with an AMD 64 AM2 processor, regular XP or is there a 64 bit version of XP out there for just such an application?
Sorry if that's old news fellas, I'm WAY out of the loop this time.....
The last proc I bought for a system I was building was a socket A XP2700 three or four years ago....Thanks guys.

32Bit Windows XP will definitely support your dual core CPU :)

Great! I thought I might need a 64 bit operating system for the processor and I really don't want to have to use Vista after what I've read about it. Thanks guys!

soooooooooo... these VERY cool new quad core cpu's only show on XP as a dualie right???? What a waste... You used to need server to get more cpu's to show???

Do they show in vista now?

Huh? XP does Quads just fine. The only time I've seen it show up as a dual was on a bad OC.

XP pro used to just support dual cpu's. No more then two..... I have not messed with the new quad cores...

So it shows as 4 cpu's in device manager in xp? XP never used to support more then two cpu's

XP Pro supports dual socket. Microsoft makes no limitations on core count.

Ah, I understand. ^^ Like he said- except I think the limit is 32 (on the Task Manager).

Of course. They don't exceed dual sockets.
