View Full Version : Restoration?
Well hey guys, havent been on for a while, and i hope this is in the rigth section..
anyways, i accidentily deleted my "my music" folder yesterday, and it must of had my itunes folder in there, because when i open itunes, there are no songs in there, which is annoying since i had 1000+. I also deleted it from the recycle bin.
So my question is; is there anyway i can restore all my music, preferbly my "my music" folder, even though i've deleted it and from the recycle bin?
I tried system restore, im well aware that it doesnt affect your documents, but i thought id try it anyways... didnt work :(

There are consumer-level recovery software programs available, retail. I don't know their names or which ones are preferred. Considering that you haven't formatted the drive/partition, I'd say your chances for successful recover are good. Buy you'll have to ante up some money for the software. If no one drops by with a specific suggestion (I'm sure someone will) do a search here for "recovery" or "data recovery." There are several threads on this topic.
Now, please listen to my recommendation to prevent your problem in the future: Please consider purchasing a an external hard drive - kit or external enclosure plus the drive of your choice. Hard drives are so inexpensive these days! Get in the habit of routinely backing up everything that's important to you. It's ultra cheap and easy insurance.

Were the actual music files in the iTunes folder, or do you have those somewhere else? It's possible you just deleted the pointer files that told where iTunes where to find your music.

When you tried system restore, you may have ruined your chances of recovery. Listen now: try to avoid writing to the drive at all costs at this point!
Anything you write to the drive has a very good chance of writing over the my music folder that has recently been marked as "okay to write over since the user deleted it". You still have a chance at recovery using undelete tools, but I'll let someone better at this take your question from here.
Hook it up to an external hard drive adapter and follow the "GetDataBack" section of this guide: http://icrontic.com/articles/advanced_data_recovery
Good luck.
Here is a demo version for a program called GetDataBack. There are 2 versions: NTFS & FAT, I presume you have NTFS. While this program is not free, it will allow you to see if your music is still accessible (should be). I have used this myself and recovered 100's of gig's of data on many different occasions. The full version does cost you but it's not expensive. Your data is worth much more.

Of course, someone else may have a more free alternative?
