Before I reformatted my system, I was using Skype with my Bluetooth headset. All I did was install the headset, then open the Skype options, and change the device dropdowns to point to my 'bluetooth device'.

Now, I've reinstalled Skype, and reinstalled my Bluetooth headset, but the 'Bluetooth device entry does not appear in the dropdown list in the Skype options panel...

I don't even know where to start troubleshooting this...

Have you created a PAN (personal area network) with the headset and set it to always allow to connect? Is the headset listed on the PC as a "audio gateway"? :)

Um... no?

How do I check that stuff?...
and how did I do it before without knowing what you're talking about?

Start your bluetooth on your PC/laptop.
Search for bluetooth devices and locate your headset.
It will ask for a security code (which for most headsets if normally 0000).
You will have an option to always allow the device to connect to your PC.

You should then be able to browse your "bluetooth network places" and see the headset listed as an "audio gateway" :)

That should then show up in Skype ;)

Got that part down.

Here you lose me... Where is the option to see 'Bluetooth network places'? All I get when I view my devices is this window:

Bluetooth places is normally an icon on your desktop ;)

It is not. :(

Could that be the problem?

Okay, I found the place to configure a PAN for my device, but that looks like an internet access thing...

Either way, it says it cannot find any PAN devices. Even thought my 'Bluetooth Devices' window shows a connection to this headset...

I'm confused...

Hmm.. are you using the supplied drivers from the bluetooth manufacturer or Windows XP builtin driver support?

I had nothing but trouble with built in support. I still use my MSI drivers instead because they support the correct profile :)

I don't think this device came with any software, it was a cheap generic headset.... I'll look around and see if I can find a disk for it, but I don't remember having to install anything to get it to work last time...

Okay. When I was looking for a disk to go with the headset, I found the disk that came with my Bluetooth Dongle.

I installed that software, and now it sees the headset as an audio gateway, and Skype is allowed to use it. Thanks;)

Now, I have a different problem... :(

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out... I was being a nincompoop...
