I had an opportunity to attend the VIP reception for the local charity concours d'elegance here in Oklahoma City, and being a car junkie, I went. Sadly, the event started late and I had to do some things there for work, so I was unable to get really good photos of many of the pre-war cars that were on display. I missed out on snapping a good group of Packards and Rolls, but I got them last year.
On display this year were some more pedestrian cars. Perhaps the six-figure Bentley's hadn't arrived yet, but there were a handfull of affordable cars that I did get some shots of. It's nice when they aren't overshadowed by the Benz and Ferraris. So I thought I'd share the few good car shots I got. Enjoy!

Very nice. In my opinion, you can skip the Citroen 2CV, they're as common as rabbits in Europe, even that vintage. Agree with above - the Jaguar is beautiful.

Yep. The 2CV is quite common in Europe, but I figure it's slowly (get it?) going the way of the original VW Beetle. You don't see too many of them on this side of the pond, especially in my area. It's totally utilitarian, but I dig it just the same.

The Stutz Bearcat and Pierce Arrow are rare, and those two in the photos appear to be a excellent condition. Now those are definitely show cars. I still find it hard to believe someone putting a 2CV on show, even if they aren't common (thank God) in the US. To me, it's about the same as if someone were to put a Toyota Tercel on show. Well, except, the Tercel is better car. The 2CV has a couple nicknames: "Students' Car" and "Duck". Former meaning it's cheap enough for a student to buy, and latter, it looks like the winged creature (a real waterfowl is much faster, though).

I think the reason the Citroen was there is partially because it's for sale from a local classic car dealer. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with it. Although it was in excellent condition, I also agree that it's a hard pill to swallow, seeing it entered next to the "real" cars.
This show is an odd one. It's not Pebble Beach. It's not Amelia Island. About half the cars there are ones that could attend, or have attended, the big events, but the other half are modern classics: muscle cars, the obligatory Corvettes, modern European luxo-rockets like Maybachs and late-model Astons... Heck, you can see the tail lights from a MB SLR McLaren in the background of the Volvo pic. There was a Viper parked across from the Benz.
But this is Oklahoma. The first year I went, I wore my dressiest suit. I was shocked and disappointed to find I was surrounded by people in Hawaiian shirts, khaki shorts and socks w/ sandals. Maybe we aren't classy enough for a real event. Not yet. I think if they got rid of the American Iron the people wouldn't come. So, to get a turnout and bring in the money for the hospital foundation, the rules here are lax. I go anyways. Last year there was a Stanley Steamer that they drove around the grounds for an exhibition of steam powered vehicles. It drove right past the Mustang Club with their '69 Mach 1. I watched it, but the mullet-heads didn't even give it a notice.

Hey, don't knock Oklahoma. Your car show was better than anything we could ever muster in Alaska. Now, if it came to all aluminum bay boats or river boats, or snowmobiles, then we'd be second to no one!

That Pierce Arrow really shows just how far cars have fallen into the appliance category in this day and age.
