AOL sez they fixed a serious security hole in its AIM client, <a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/09/28/aol-does-fix-nasty-aim-hole" target="_blank">security expert sez they didn't</a>. Now would be a good time to investigate an alternative client if you're (the one) still using AOL's client.

I recommend Pidgin for anyone that needs a multi-network client.

I'll second that Enverex--- Pidgin will run all IM services including IRC.
For others not on windows there's Adium which will run all IM services also IRC.
I used Gaim for yrs and now it's new project name is Pidgin!

I recommend Trillian. It used to suck, but now it's okay.

Forgot about that one Thrax. I also used that one for quite a while.
Another good one that runs IRC too.
