Windows XP chooses life (Again...)

In the epic tale of operating systems that will not die, Windows XP is perhaps the most humorous of the lot. Not initially offered by OEMs with the introduction of Vista, slated to stop being produced in January of 2008, and being put to pasture in 2009, Windows XP was doomed to die.

Due to user revolt against <s>Windows ME v2</s> Windows Vista, however, Microsoft has announced (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/09/28/windows-xp-given-reprieve) that XP will continue to be manufactured and sold until June, 2008.

Shame on you, Thrax. It's Windows ME Service Pack 2.

Adoption of Vista around here has not just been bad- but abysmal. Managers have had new PCs brought to them with Vista installed, only to have almost ALL of them returned for an XP image. Our IT group parrots the conversion to Vista, but still delivers XP systems to the users.

Observation: MS WILL get heat if they try to force the issue too soon.

Vista adoption has been universally reviled at my work. We buy IBMs because they offer XP w/o hassle.
