So, I'm a huge Florida Gator fan. I was watching the game tonight with 2 other people, my girlfriend (who has a lease on the apt with me) and a friend. I was loud as always watching the game, it was like 11:30 when it was over. I got the cops called on me for some reason without even knowing I was being that loud. They asked how many people I had, I said 3. They asked for ID I said I had mine and my girlfriend had hers, but my friend didn't (he did, but isn't 21 and was drinking, but they didn't ask).
My problem is I'm used to a little more friendly community. I'm new here, for the most part, but I'd expect people to at least ask me to be a little more quiet, especially considering the time and day of the week. I have no intention of upsetting anyone and would respect anyone who asked me to be quiet.
My big question is, what should I do? Should I talk to everyone and explain my passion for Gator football and that I typically don't pay attention to how loud I am and that I would appreciate them coming to me first? Or do I just ignore it and move on?

If they were passionate Gator fans, they would have understood your need to drink and be loud tonight.
Even I, someone that loathes Florida in all its forms, can commiserate with Gator fans over a loss by a last second field goal. Oklahoma fell victim to it today, too :bawling:

It just sucks that it happened tonight. First night my friend comes over. I've been equally loud for every game on TV. I suppose tonight drew the line.

Hmm, calling the police is a bit overdramatic. The least someone could do is to just pop in and talk to you, before they call authorities. In the future, to avoid people complaining, be more quiet. I just can't think of anythin else.

I think you should do the following:
Turn your damn TV down. Its not incumbent upon other people living around you to tell you that its too loud. You're an adult. You know its loud...so turn it down.
I was loud as always watching the game, it was like 11:30 when it was over. I got the cops called on me for some reason without even knowing I was being that loud.
You know what the reason is and you contradict yourself immediately by admitting you are always loud but can't understand why the police were called.
Then I think you should take a little responsibility for your own actions, avoid lying the the police, and if you really want to overachieve...don't serve alcohol to underage friends of yours.

Be more careful when you're supplying minors with alcohol.

Don't lie to the police. Respect your neighbors. If you wanna yell, go to a sports bar or some place where it won't bother those around you.

Perhaps I don't have quite the tolerance for people telling others what to and not to do.

It wasn't unsolicited, and he was pretty much on the mark. Living in an apartment != a house or dorm. You gotta keep your **** turned down :-/

I know you're young, just started college, and having a good time is at the top of your priority list...thats fine. However, I think you'll find in a few years when you're a little older, a little wiser, working a job of your own and handling more responsibility that your peace is a valued commodity and that it irritates you when people disturb it.
I'm all for having a good time, I've cut more young people making asses out of themselves breaks than you can possibly imagine. Ya know what though? Your right to a good time doesn't supercede everybody else's right to a peaceful evening. If you aren't old enough to know when your TV is too loud then you aren't old enough to own a TV in my opinion.
Thats before we get into the other brilliance like serving underage and lying to the Po Po. If your buddy is turning 21 in a week and you're all just having some fun then no harm no foul. If you lie...about ANYTHING then you just told me what your maturity level is, didn't you?
"I'm sorry officer, the TV is too loud, we'll turn it down or go watch the game at a sports bar." goes about a MILLION times farther than "Why are you here? Oh, you got a noise complaint? Really? I didn't think it was that loud? My buddy forgot his ID...yeah its just a coincidence that he looks 12, smells of alcohol, and doesn't live here."
I'm one of those people that works odd hours, on weekends, Airborn. I'm by no means 'that neighbor' but if I'm trying to sleep and you're just being loud for the sake of being loud, well, my job and paycheck are more important to me than hurting your feelings by having the cops tell you to quiet down. Maybe I'm in bed and don't feel like getting dressed and walking down the hall or downstairs just to tell you to turn it down? Maybe I expect a lot of adults at this point in my life but more likely is that I deal with this kind of adolescent nonsense 40+ hours a week and I just tire of the lame excuses and lack of consideration for one's neighbors.
I see a lame excuse I call people on it, always have, always will. I'd suggest owning up to what you did to get the cops called on you in the first place along with being polite, honest, and respectful. If you want to play games and treat the cops that respond like they're stupid and don't know whats really going on then you reap what you sow.

Its okay. Next week he'll be the OP on a "OMFG the copxors just arrested me for being drunk!!" thread and we'll have the privelage of reading all the drivel about how his civil rights were violated when the cops arrested him after he told them to Eff Off in a drunken underage fit of stupidity. :rolleyes2

Nah. First off, I have a little more self control than to get that drunk. I drink to be social, not get drunk. There are some guys in my fraternity like that and it disgusts me. Not to mention I don't get angry, I get happy and mellow. I'd probably be very friendly with the 5 - 0. The cops around here aren't really that bad anyway. As long as you aren't being a douche bag out on the streets or driving drunk they leave you alone.
Funny story, actually. If you call a cop around here "hæstkuk", translated to horse d!ck, you'll walk away with it. Kall him "f@g in a leather jacket", and you'll be spending the night in a rather uncomfortable cell 250NOK poorer. I guess I really want to say is watch your mouth with the police. You never know.

Well, it wasn't the TV that was overly loud. It was actually quieter than normal. I think the issue was random spouts of yelling with 5min to go in the game. In any case, when the cops came by they asked "How many people do you have here?" and were confused when I said only 3. I'm not overly worried about it, except for I was hoping to have a little bit more than "cold and distant" relationship with neighbors. The funny part is, my girlfriend slept through the entire outburst at the end of the game without even opening her eyes. Needless to say, I guess I'll just control my yelling from now on.
