My laptop is crashing again, after replacing the RAM and the HD, it still has issues... I wish this damn thing would just work like it's supposed to.

This is still the Compaq Presario 2190us.

I looked up this crash's fault code and windows support says it's a 'double fault', which is 'almost always caused by faulty kernel-mode drivers'...

what's a 'kernel-mode driver'? and can a faulty one be replaced?

Kernel-mode drivers are drivers that run in kernel mode on your machine. They're supposed to be to let Windows talk to your critical hardware (video, motherboard) but some of the time lazy peripheral manufacturers will make their drivers kernel-mode as well.

That aside, update all the drivers on your machine. If it doesn't go away call Compaq because the other side of the coin is that the hardware being driven is dying.

Well, since I just installed the OS a few days ago (had to replace the HD), all of the drivers are already as current as I can find.

I can't call Compaq; when they look at my account and see how long ago I bought my system, they tell me I have to pay for additional assistance :P

The part certainly aren't under warranty... and I've replaced everything that the end user can easily replace
