Hi Guys

Just went through and did a big clean up of my PC (see this thread: http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65654 )

Seems that I've cause more issues than I've solved...

Not only does Automatic Updates STILL crash my computer when loading and/or accessing the net, but now my Windows Media Player refused to load up. Clicking on the .exe file directly, the shortcut or trying to open a media file results in nothing happening at all. Winamp has similar issues.

Last night I tried to play Counter Strike via Steam. Same sorts of issues as Automatic Updates, computer crashes as it connects to the net. Steam updates seem to work ok, but as soon as I try and connect to the server and play a game, it crashes and the computer locks up.

Over the past week or so I've installed and used:

SUPERAntiSpyware
Ad-Aware
Spybot Search and Destroy
SpywareBlaster
Panda Activescan (online version)
Kaspersky Online Virus Scan
Comondo
AntiVir
HijackThis
AVG Anti SpywareAny ideas??

Thanks

First, back off to only one antivirus and one antispyware solution installed. These types of softwares aren't synergistic, that is, they don't play nice with each other.

Do you get a blue screen of death? If so, what error code does it give? Check your system event log in Administrative Tools in the Control Panel for application and system errors and post any that you find for the softwares you mentioned.

Uninstalled everything but Avira AntiVir and Comodo firewall.
Still having the same issue. Locking up as Steam tries to connect. Updates fine but when I enter my login and password and click on connect, it tries to connect and locks up 10 seconds later.

Not exactly sure which log you're after, but here's the 'System' event log via the Event Viewer...

I want to see the error codes for the events marked 'Error' in the System and Application event logs, particularly the ones near the times that things are breaking. They will be in the property pages for the event in the detailed information section.
