Stereo sound

I'll drop this in the pub for now, since we don't have a peripherals board.

I'm not getting stereo sound from my speakers. I don't know when it started. I know I had stereo at one point, but I didn't notice that it was gone until I tried to participate in this thread (http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65826). I'm getting sound to both speakers, but it's the same sound. It does it whatever device I plug in, and it doesn't matter which port I use (Front, Surround, or Rear).

I use a program called SoundMAX (which came with an old sound card) as a mixer, but I don't think it's the problem, as I've been using it for years, and this is a new issue. I've searched everywhere in all the option screens I can think of, and cannot find any settings that could be causing it.

I don't how to continue troubleshooting this issue... Any ideas are welcome.

Also: The start of the issue might coincide with the installation of drivers for a USB sound adapter that came with a headset which I returned because it was really uncomfortable. Is that even possible?

Yes. Have you tried uninstalling everything sound-related on the machine and reinstalling just what you want from scratch? I have a feeling something didn't uninstall properly.

Oh, and when you can listen to that other thread, listen with headphones.

I was listening with headphones, that's how I could tell that it wasen't really stereo. :/

I already looked through add/remove programs for sund stuff, and al that's tere is SoundMAX. You think it would help to remove that to?

I'll also lok through the Devices box, and delete all my sound drivers and stuff.

Yup, I'd yank everything including soundmax. It couldn't hurt to run a Reg cleaner after that too. It's amazing how much junk some of these uninstalls leave behind.
