Tired of renting supercomputing time from labs all over the country, Dr. Gaurav Khanna, a scientist from University of Massachusetts, opted instead to beg off some PS3s from Sony to work on his gravity wave research.

Worried that his superiors would be dubious about purchasing "game consoles", he resorted to explaining his situation to Sony, upon which they gave up 8 of their shiny black supercomputers.

Dr. Khanna's tweaked-out code now runs calculations as fast as the 200 supercomputing nodes that he used to be forced to rent time from.

If I won the lottery... after paying off my debt, I'd buy a HUGE farm of PS3's to fold on. My home would be built with a room dedicated to dozens of these toys, and one gigantic screen to play on. The PS3's would be behind a sound proof window pane on both sides of the room to show them off as they hang perched on the wall, and I'd have a big cog hanging like a chandilier from the ceiling.
