resetting and configuring modem/router

specs:

PC: Windows XP
Modem: DSL-G604T-GenII

i've got a DSL-G604T-GenII Modem/Router and its currently running at home, the person who configure it and stuff is no longer around and i want to configure the Modem... changing the WEP key so i can add other wireless devices...

i have the option of resetting it, i can see there's a reset button on the side...

never done this before so just asking incase i stuff it up lol...

now i have no driver cd or whatever... can someone give me a quick guide on tackling this?

my questions before i press the reset button:
- do i need anything else (like the driver cd or whatever?)
- does the modems IP address stay the same if i reset it (10.1.1.1)
- i'm guessing i'd need information from my ISP...

You'll need the information for your ISP.

After you reset it it'll go back to it's default IP scheme which may be 10.x or typically 192.x. It will also normally have DHCP settings on so your computer will be on the same network with your router being the 1st Ip in the range. So if your computer's IP changes to 192.168.1.100 your router is almost guaranteed to be 192.168.1.1.

You'll need to know the default password to get into the router, usually that's either a login name of admin, with blank password or blank login with admin as the password.

You shouldn't need a cd. But if you want you should be able to grab the software from the hardware vendors site, or possibly your ISP if this thing came from your ISP.

you do not have to reset. You simply need to log onto the router. You need that password. You might google for the factory default.

And you do not have to add another key for another device. Use the existing key. Or just add one after logging onto the router.

A routers IP is not guaranteed to be 192.168.1.1, I've had several from different manufactures and they have have all been 192.168.0.1.

Never said it was, I just gave an example. If your IP is 192.168.1.100 then your routers IP is almost guaranteed to be 192.168.1.1. If your router is 192.168.0.100 then your router will be 192.168.0.1 etc...etc...etc....
