View Full Version : YouTube: Wait, you didn't actually want to watch that...
YouTube (http://www.youtube.com) is at the center of yet another debate over internet rights. This time: Censorship of videos (http://www.news.com/Should-YouTube-play-the-censor-and-sentinel/2100-1025_3-6217712.html?tag=nefd.lede) from mentally disturbed users (http://www.news.com/In-Finland-shooting%2C-fallout-for-YouTube/2010-1025_3-6217468.html) who go on killing sprees (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/11/07/wfin307.xml): Sensitive or fascist?
For me this is a no-brainer.
My Dad told me "Just becaue you can do something, doesn't mean you should."
You Tube is profiting from the pain of others, including the poor, deluded individuals that feel the need to post their rants and diatribes on the site, then do the terrible things they do. You Tube's glorification of these horrible acts shows how insensitive, and morally bankrupt its controllers are.

It's both, to a degree.
On the one hand RADA is exactly right that limiting what the service displays is a common-sense move.
On the other hand, it's the beginning of a slippery slope of censorship. Who knows where it might end?
