Intel will be releasing it's 45nm Penryn architecture soon on the mobile computing world. The schedule (http://www.dailytech.com/Intels+Penryn+Mobile+Processor+Schedule+Revealed/article9893.htm) has them coming out as soon as January 6ths with the high-end X9000 leading the pack with a 6MB cached dual processor core running at 2.8GHz.

However, those wanting to get a mobile quad-core may have to wait until after mid-year (http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20071015VL200.html).

The new T9xxx series processors should be drop-in compatible with most mobiles that run T7xxx. That question for the quad-core Penryns is not so clear. However, the year should not go out before quad-core power becomes mobile.

Frankly, I enjoy my T7200 laptop and it is a super CPU. A drop-in quad replacement would be something I would seriously consider if the price was right. Stay tuned ....
