Fox News Website:

NEW YORK — Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in what authorities say is a possible drug-related death, the NYPD said. He was 28.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told The Associated Press that Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment that is believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there, and found him dead at 3:26 p.m, Browne said.

The Australian-born actor was nominated for an Oscar for "Brokeback Mountain," where he met his wife, actress Michelle Williams, in 2005. Ledger and Williams had lived in Brooklyn and had a daughter, Matilda, until they split up last year.

Ledger's roles include the suicidal son of Billy Bob Thornton in "Monster's Ball" and had starring roles in "A Knight's Tale" and "The Patriot." He was to appear as the Joker this year in "The Dark Night," a sequel to 2005's "Batman Begins."

Really liked him in Knight's Tale & The Patriot, bummer!

I heard about this at the gym it blew my mind! I usually don't get sad over such things and if it were drug related then shame on him but man it is insane to think of someone lie him dieing like this. He isn't much older than myself.

I read they found him naked on the floor with some prescribed sleeping pills nearby. I guess we will find out after the autopsy whether he was doped up or not when he died. The 2 articles I read said there was no suicide note anywhere.

Well, according to my other half *is on the verge of sounding like a celebrity nerd* his massage person (can't remember the real name) was on the phone to Kate Alson for about 10 minutes and apparently if they got off the phone and called the cops they might have been able to save him.

The details are a little sketchy as when she speaks to me about celebrities I kind of turn off and nod and grunt at her.

I heard that he overdosed on over the counter sleeping pills. No other drugs were found near his body, but they won't know if he was on anything else till the tox report comes back.

I guess the rumor is that his wife left him because he had a drug problem, and that he was a big mess lately because she was thinking about applying for full custody of their daughter, something like that.

I was just reading this article right here (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2008/02/07/2008-02-07_rx_drug_cocktail_accident_killed_heath_l-1.html) that they found 6 different legal OTC and prescribed drugs in his system. None of the levels of the individual drugs were particularly high, but rather the combination of them is what killed him. They ruled his death accidental.

"We have concluded that the manner of death is an accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications," she said.

The meds found in his system were:

Oxycodone (OxyContin): prescription painkiller, potentially addictive, lethal in overdose, especially in combination with Xanax and Valium.

Hydrocodone (Vicodin): prescription painkiller, potentially addictive, lethal in overdose, especially in combination with Xanax and Valium.

Diazepam (Valium): prescription anti-anxiety drug, potentially addictive, less likely to be lethal in overdose than painkillers, except when taken in combination with alcohol and other drugs that depress the nervous system.

Alprazolam (Xanax): prescription anti-anxiety drug, potentially addictive, less likely to be lethal in overdose than painkillers, except when taken in combination with alcohol and certain drugs.

Temazepam (Restoril)): prescription sleeping pill, potentially addictive, less likely to be lethal in overdose than painkillers, except when taken in combination with alcohol and certain drugs.

Doxylamine (Unisom): over-the-counter antihistamine sometimes usedfor insomnia; overdose unlikelyto be lethal.

Playing the Joker -> Severe sleep problems -> Medications -> Dead.

Not very often an actor dies over a role :(
