View Full Version : Your DNA
Hi. I'd like to see how the community feels about D.N.A. patenting. From the way I understand it, in the united states, as soon as one little spec of DNA leaves your body, it is no longer yours. Thus, meaning that, as soon as a hair leaves your head, someone can pick it up, send it off to a lab, and patent it. Now, this really isnt an issue for me, because there is, and will always be, ONE of me. Also, it does not bother me that I could be cloned, ethically, nor morally. Because, Like I said, there can only be one person with my personality, and my traits exactly. How do you feel about it?
I feel.... meh. With current technology I doubt I'll have a doppleganger running around ruining my day. But then again it would explain some things.
You can't patent genetic material which, inherently, belongs to another person. Once an element of your DNA leaves your body though, like your swimmers into the sink drain, it is legally no longer yours when it comes to criminality.
If you listened to the state of the union last night--as opposed to playing a drinking game with it--you'll know that some camps want to legally ban human cloning and material patents.
I didn't watch the State of the Union, I could care less about politics also. I just wanted to feel the climate of it. I know it really bothers a lot of people. Yes, your genetic material is inherited, and by the definition, not yours. As far as human cloning, I'd rather it not happen, but it wouldn't bother me really. I wouldn't have a problem with it if they could come up with a unique gene sequence, but then it would not be a clone would it.

I'm ex-military; the Department of Defense has my DNA on file.
...Probably growing RADA-clones in a remote, high desert lab right now.....

I saw a work van that said "FAP" on the side when I was down in Lexington a few weeks ago. I had to do a double-take. That was really the company name.
Almost as good as the local towing firm: Camel Towing.
