View Full Version : Remodeling ICHQ

So now that ICHQ is a bachelor pad (http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68880), Keebler and I need to kinda sorta remodel the hive so that it ... well so that it's more like a bachelor pad.

It started innocently enough, with the acquisition of a large display (http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68956). Well of course the large display outshone everything else in the front room and we decided to try moving it to a different area. One thing led to another and a decision was made to remodel the dining room into a media room / home theater. So we decided "oh, we'll paint. No biggie."

Painting led to wallpaper removal. Wall paper removal led to thoughts of rearranging the cabinet space to make room for a bar. Rearranging cabinet space led to a nightmare of tearing apart almost everything.

So yeah, basically we're shooting for having this done by the St. Patty's Day Bash..... Cross your fingers :wtf:

Wallpaper is gone. Cabinets ripped off wall. Most holes patched. One wall is clean and ready to prime, the others need cleaning and sanding. The kitchen is a total cluster**** between painting supplies and everything from under the sink (did we mention all the water damage under the sink that turned the wood under there into clay?) The former studio / Keebs' new room has been patched, sanded, cleaned, primed, and two of the walls painted. Perry is terribly sick and Brian is following in his footsteps - they're both staying home tomorrow. I'm on multi-vitamins and OJ to keep it away from me. Yay what a weekend! :eek3: :mouldy:

We decided that since the former dining room would be turning into the media center, there was no need for a pantry / food cabinet in there. The blue area is where we yanked the food cabinet and we're going to be building a little bar there.

Just make the bar a companion cube and I'll all be happy.

CB
5 Feb 2008, 7:57pm
I guess we don't see that, because we've only been there during the LAN parties. Personally, at all three LAN parties that were at the house, I spent most of my time either in the tent or in the dining room.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished project.

I was thinking about your remodeling project while I was playing Oblivion the other night. It actually started with the thought that the first level of Frostcrag would make a great place to host a LAN party. What that led me to was that if you are moving the entertainment stuff to the 'dining room', and Keebs is leaving the basement, that leaves two large connected, finished spaces inside your house. I might be underestimating the actual space, but you could proly fit the LAN party in the house...

primesuspect
5 Feb 2008, 8:00pm
I think you're highly underestimating the space o.O

Kwitko

CB
5 Feb 2008, 8:21pm
I'm usually pretty good at visualizing spaces, but I also just realized that I'm only picturing about 25 people, when I look back and see that the LAN parties have about 45 attendees. :/

primesuspect
5 Feb 2008, 8:29pm
I've crammed 35 people into my house for my dad's 60th birthday party, but that was JUST PEOPLE.

Not computers, monitors, chairs, tables, etc. etc. etc..

Gnome Queen
5 Feb 2008, 8:29pm
Ohhh, companion cube bar!! Do it!!

GHoosdum
5 Feb 2008, 8:31pm
We were able to fit three people on a single narrow 6-foot folding table, we could probably fit a whole LAN party in the living room and basement! Or maybe the living room and garage, assuming the garage were emptied. :hair:

RyderOCZ

Also, the living room will be kinda full with 2 (small) sofas, coffee table, Brian and my desks, and the dining room table :wtf: And, the downstairs only has the illusion of being "finished" because of my area rugs, one of which is migrating to the new entertainment area until the floor can be replaced. It's nasty glue-ridged floor under them.

Of course, when you start a repainting project, you realize that new paint makes all the rest of the old stuff look like total crap, so it cascades. We realized that the kitchen needed to be painted in order to not look like total crap next to the media room, so.... Instead of removing wallpaper, we primed right over it. It makes a stunning difference.

Now the question that nobody has asked yet. Where are people sleeping during the LAN party? I mean, I know I'm sleeping on the big couch (death to whomever says other ways :ninja:), but what about the others that slept on the smaller couch and on the floor? Same as before? Also, where are the board games and laptop disassembly area going to be placed? Basement, that's my guess.

The former living room has been opened up a lot. There will be MORE sleeping room inside now. Also the basement will be almost completely opened up.

We were just playing a board game in the living room last night. The two small sofas now face each other with the coffee table between them for some high quality gaming space :)

By "office" we mean "the room we put our desks in" :p

Are you overestimating the size of our desks or underestimating the size of the living room? If the living room consisted of just 2 desks, it would be awfully barren... and there's nowhere else to put the other two sofas but the basement anyway...

honestly, I beleive there is enough room for a beer fridge in the office now.
