get a real glass. drink real beer at a real temp.
/me doesn't respect plastic cups.
Many brews definitely get better as they warm up, though there's something to be said for an ice-cold brew on a hot day.
death to plastic.

well sine its 90* F here 99% of the time cold mugs = teh win
Call me a sissy, cuz beer is better cold IMHO.
Then again, I insist on ALL my (non hot) drinks being ice cold.....water, soda, sweet tea, kool-aid, lemon-aid, lime-aid, and even wine. COLD!
Some beers are good cold, some beers are good room-tempered, and some beers are best for drinking in the sauna!
It's all a matter of personal taste!

Is it so wrong to enjoy a cold Dr. pepper?
Pilsner Glasses The one all the way to the right (with shotglass hanging on it) is an antique passed down from grandfather.
I have four glass sets of the other two styles.
Here's (http://www.beercollections.com/Glassware/Pilsner-Glasses.htm) a nice selection of Pilsners & other beer glasses.

So... your first Pilsner glass...
...except it isn't glass...
...and you don't put Pilsner in it...
...and it's manufactured to be the wrong temperature.
:(

So it has a slight flaw... Nothing's perfect :P
I don't think you can get a cold beer in Germany (maybe all of Europe). Come to think of it, they don't serve cola (soda, pop, whatever you want to call it) cold over there either.
Harudath
9 Feb 2008, 9:30pm
Warm cola....?
Warm cola....?Cola is served cool, not cold and without ice.
Harudath
9 Feb 2008, 9:36pm
Then it is not a cola ¬_¬
That's room temperature fizzy sugar.

Why would there be ice in beer?
Harudath
10 Feb 2008, 1:42am
The same reason you put poison in people's drinks.
EDIT: I don't <i>actually</i> know what I'm talking about

They chill the glass sometimes or just chill the beer.
I have never seen a bar serve a beer over ice...that is just insane and totally weird.

Hey, i attached some examples of how pilsner glasses are supposed to look like, at least here in Germany. It's called a "tulpe" (tulip), because of the shape.
Also, people like to drink their beverages at refreshing temperatures, especially beer. Recommended temperature is 7-9°.
Did a babelfish of a site (http://de.babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bierclub.net%2Frund_ums_bier%2Fbiersorten_aus_deutschland.htm&lp=de_en&btnTrUrl=%C3%9Cbersetzen) which shows different types of beers and their proper types of glasses. Don't trust the fish though ;)

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
What I've heard, light, pale beers are to be served in thinner, lighter glasses, and dark beers are to be served in robust, heavy glasses as a rule of thumb..

As a barman I've never heard of putting ice in beer, cider occasionally (although its a rule of thumb with me that cider comes with ice, just a personal preference I guess)
As for beer being served colder, over here in the UK we get quite a few brands of lager (Tennents, Carling, Carlsberg) that offer more than one version of their standard pint. Typically the lager itself and an ice cold version of it. All that means is that the beer is passed through a flash cooler usually located under the bar - this reduced the temperature of the beer by a few degrees C. The reason behind this and the reason many people prefer the ice cold version of some lagers is that the reduction in temperature actually partially numbs the tongues taste buds so u don't really taste the beer - perfect for crappy lagers i recon.
Dunno if you get this across the water

You have to accept that some people are after beer for the numbing, refreshing bliss it can bring if something goes wrong or you fancy getting pissed. If it's cold it's to be refreshing, if they have it any old how it's to forget, and if they drink it at the correct temperature then they truly appreciate beer. Although I appreciate a well tasted beer can be refreshing, I am talking about the beer-belly brandishing football (soccer *sigh*) fans, or in the US's case (So I've heard) Nascar fans drinking themselves silly.

A large percentage of fans at most sporting events in the US drink themselves silly. ;)

Visit Ireland. Women and a lot of men drinks...tapped Bud or Carlsberg on the rocks. If they where out of ice, people put 1/4 of cold Sprite/7up in the pint instead. After 3 years i still couldn't believe what i saw at the pubs, but hey, each to their own.
You do not drink an English ale cooler than room remperature. Old speckled hen on the chill is unthinkable. It was made to be drinked piss luke.
