Hello,
Im having a problem with possible Adware or Spyware on my computer that is effecting AOL's Instant Messanger, and its effecting AIM by putting a spam/ad type message in my Screen name's profile. When I erase it, it is still there. I tried using AdAware6.0 to get rid of possible adware, but it hasn't done anything. Does anyone know how to get rid of this??
Thanks

Adaware is crap. When it comes to spyware use Spybot

Thanks for the program! It works nicely. I was able to find a bunch of stuff with it, so I let it 'fix' it, but I am still having this problem. It stays! Argh! :banghead:

You're not using the Aim Filter (http://www.securiteam.com/securitynews/5JP052A60U.html) are you?

If so, that might be the cause.

Lots of Spyware burrows deep into the registry and must be manually removed (usually in Safe Mode). Shut down any suspect services and close AIM, then try the removal again.

Nope, I'm not using any AIM Filter that I know of...Never heard of it.

Bharrington:

Can you go to this registry hive, and copy what you find in there into this thread? I'd like to see it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Good call, prime. :)

You might also want to run HijackThis! Don't make any changes until you check back here, unless you know for sure what you are deleting - most of what it finds is stuff you need!

If u do click the link in an effected profile, and internet explorer asks you to install the software, click no. You will then get an error saying you must hit yes. If you click ok (the only button to click) the software will install. Its a tricky play on words. I suggest just ending the process for internet explorer.
