ASRock 4Core1600 P35 WiFi+

MadShrimps gave the ASRock board (http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=662) some long-term testing and came away stoked. They recommend it for mainstream users and praise its upgradability. With DDR2 and DDR3 support, it offers a nice degree of being futureproof.

MSI K9A2 Platinum

MSI's latest top-of-the-line motherboard sports an AMD 790FX chipset. The board is a rocket at stock speeds (http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/cpu_mobo/msi/amd/am2/k9a2p/), but Viperlair had issues when they tried to overclock it. Blame the Phenom they used, or the board's immature BIOS.

Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6

The Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 Ultra Durable 2 rocks DDR3 for in-your-face performance, but is expected to come at a steep price. Benchmark Reviews (http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=80&Itemid=1) is concerned that the price may be too high considering the step to X48 doesn't offer improvements from the newer chipset. Looking at it from a Linux standpoint, Phoronix (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=intel_linux_x48&num=1) echos the same sentiments.
