CNN fires a producer (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chez-pazienza/say-what-you-will-requie_b_87282.html?) for keeping a blog.

Hmm. Welp, I'm done with CNN. I don't think I'll miss it. Like Chez said, it's been going down the tubes with the rest of the TV news industry, anyway.

I quit watching television news probably 10 years ago. Mile wide - inch deep. So much of what this Chez guy wrote (first time I'd heard of him) is true. And you know what, the political spin - conservative or liberal, not sure what that means these days anyway - is not my major concern. My problem with television 'news' is just the focus on the trivial, avoidance of substance, and the seemingly "drive-by" pattern wherein they all tend to report the same things at the same time with same lack of detail and follow up - just enough information for a sound bite and a few seconds of video.

Unfortunately it will probably only get worse. More and more people are leaving the traditional television media (and print as well) and moving to online news and blog sources. Will television cater to the those remaining - those who are entertainment oriented and unconcerned with factual depth - and only become worse?

Although I am not a fan of CNN (or Fox, or MSNBC....), I think they were within their rights to fire the blogger. And no, I'm not making a moral 'right' or 'wrong' statement. That's not my point. It's hard to believe that an experienced communications professional who already understood the "corporate" (his word) news climate did not know he was violating the rules.
