I think this goes here, it's news if it true.
I heard that Netscape Navigator had a good life ,
But it now lives on in Firefox.
We have good people to find out if something is or
just B.S.
So what is This Is Netscape gone?
I see you can still download Netscape Navigator.
So what gives?

It will never die but will be very unused. As long as you can download it, it will be alive.

But they are giving up and leaving the project.

Taken from their homepage:

"Official support for all Netscape client products will end on March 1st, 2008

Q: What will this mean?
A: We'll continue to release security patches for the current version of the browser, Netscape Navigator until February 1, 2008. After February 1, there will be no more active product support for Navigator 9, or any previous Netscape Navigator browser.

Q: I use Netscape now. Now that Netscape is stopping support, what do I do?
A: The Netscape Team fully stands behind the fine work being done by the Mozilla Foundation. We recommend that you download Mozilla Firefox and give it a try. We know you'll enjoy it!
"

Yes, it's dead, as in "no longer in development". AOL killed it off. Firefox, SeaMonkey, Camino, and a few other browsers all use the Gecko rendering engine, which was developed by Netscape.

Is Netscape Dead?Oh, are you one of the 11 people who use it? I used it until version 4.0 or something like that. It included something called Communicator. At that point it became a bloated pig. I did not become an IE user because IE was bundled with Windows, rather as a refreshing alternative to Netscape.

But I've been using Firefox now for about four years.

Wasn't Netscape the first graphical browser? Mosaic or something.
