Jim Koch, owner of Sam Adams Brewery, is sitting on 10 tons of excess hops this year. What do you do with 10 tons of hops when there is a worldwide hops price crisis? Why, you sell them at wholesale rates to small brewers so local beer connoisseurs can get the beers that they love! The brewery will sell 10,000 pounds of East Kent Goldings from Great Britain and 10,000 pounds of Tettnang Tettnanger from small farms in the Tettnang region in Germany.

This is a very nice gesture from a small brewer who made it big. Seems like Jim remembers where he came from.

Every now and then a really pleasant story comes along. Truly a nice guy. That's the best kind of PR he and his brewery could do.

Note that it isn't excess; here's letting them have some of their normal stock and they'll be using it if it isn't all claimed.

He's selling it below market value on an honor system - if you need it, you can buy it - and they're not asking questions. He just wants brewers to be able to .... brew :)

Jim Koch is one awesome man. He is one reason Sam Adams is my favorite brewery.

Watch the videos and learn a little about beer ;)
