View Full Version : Private Messaging limit
Just checked the database size and the private messsage table is starting to get a little too big for comfort :(
We are going to have to reduce the maximum amount of PMs to 350.
This is just to keep our database size down and prevent the "slow crawl of death" that can occur with Vbulletin forums after a while.
Sorry we have to do it but it's better to keep things performing than not :)
aaahhh..... 4 pm's :d.
Really tho...does anyone need more than 350?
Does anyone need more than 100?
Do you mean each or total for the whole system? I'm going clean mine out but there aren't that many anyhoo
Heh. Guess I didn't think that one very far through, given we have over 700 members =P
That seems like an AWFUL lot per member, I'm sure if everyone cleaned out the junk, nobody should need more than (?)50(?).
;D ;D Keto.. That would be an interestin but totally inpractical solution :p
Yeah, it is a few but im trying to be totally fair :)

I've been meaning to clean mine out for a while, but being a procrastinator it always seemed like a good job for "next week".
Just wiped them - 200 less to clog up the system. :clap:

GUESS WHAT I JUST NOTICED!!!!!!!
Sorry to shout, but this is something worth shouting about! When I was deleting my old PM's I left the first one I ever received here at S-M (sentimental reasons - it was General K's "Welcome" message). I got it the day I joined: June 4, 2003.
Today is the six-month anniversary! :wave:
:celebrate :rockon: :woowoo: :clap: :Rocker: :cheers:

Now we have a scapegoat to blame for when SM slows down :D ;) ;) J/K
I just blew away a bunch of junk in the "Sent" folder (I never knew I had to delete it myself, I thought it would go away overtime) and the "Tracking" folder. Everything else I have is user contact info for the LAN.

I seldom send/receive PMs so I guess sometimes it's nice being the guy in the corner no one pays attention to, eh? :cool:

Haven't counted them, but I think I would have an average amount for a mod, not too much, and not too little. With 90% of them just really being between me and Profdlp about life, love and how short Shorty really is.;)

Life = Too short :(
Love = Pretty damn long, in every sense. :p
Shorty = Somewhere in between...

One trick, is to clean out your sent folder and not track what need not be tracked, on an individual user basis. I sometimes get 4 PMs in one day, reply, end up with 8 tracked messages except once replied to, since I quote what I need later, I trash the orignals sent to me or print them on my printer and then remove.
Cleaning IN and SENT boxes, for ordinary users, will keep total base down by itself. Printing things needed and then trashing the remote copy will help also.
John.
