Computer freezes

Hi guys I've been having a lot of problems with my comp as of lately it's been freezing a lot whenever I play diablo or counter strike or I just try and install something like a new game.

I have an AMD Thunderbird 1 Ghr, Abit Kt-7 Raid motherboard, Sound Blaster Live Value Ati Radeon 8500 128. I have 2 hard drives one 30g and another 40g the 40 has my os on it I have 256 mb or ram I have reformated installed all the latest drivers for sound card vid card and motherboard and virus scan. doesn't freeze in safe mode though, But what fun is safe mode ;)

Another thing I've noticed is that it's off but then all of a sudden it turns on by itself it's pretty scary :bawling: if anyone could help me I'd be very greatful thanks in advance.

Since you are new here, we have to go through some of the fairly obvious stuff....

- wat kind of internet connection do you use?

- what type of firewall do you use?

- what type of virus protection do you use?

- what type of spyware scanning / removal do you use?

- do you do your Windows Updates?

Since you say it is starting up on it's own, that means that you have your BIOS settings enabled for wake-up from some external event.

There are all kinds of scenarios that could be played out here. The betting man in me says that your Wake Up on LAN is active, and that you have no firewall, and that you have a broadband connection, and that you have a trojan. Some remote user has your IP or IP range, and is trying to ping your system to access it thorugh the trojan. This activity is waking up your computer. Start by disabling all wake-up events in your BIOS.

As I said, that's just a shot in the dark so far, but answer the questions above, check your BIOS wake-up event settings, and then someone here will be able to help you form there.
