Title says it all, if anyone knows a great space based game or two, or three please let me know. Sins of a Solar Empire has some interest but as I read up on it I am just not too sure.

I guess what would be great is a game with near newtonian physics and also a space sim fighter which lets me customize the ship a lot. Similar to Freelancer but without a Ship:Planet ratio equating to a Basketball:pingpong ball.

Sins is pretty sweet. I've played some rounds with friends at LANs and the battles are freakin' epic. The gameplay is a little slow and repetitive but the races are fairly unique and there are already some decent mods out for the game.

Personally the Master of Orion games (esp. the first one) and Homeworld 1 and 2 are prolly my favorite ones.

I was going to suggest Freelancer. I agree about the ping-pong comment. However check out some mods for it they go a long way to correcting that problem. http://www.lancersreactor.com/

I like Star Wars: Empire at War, but unfortunately it's just RTS and not a ship-based game like freelancer. Maybe you could try the EVE Online demo on steam?

I left out my EVE comments as I rewrote the post a couple times. I loved EVE but it demanded too much time for small things. I ended up just leveling skills and never actually playing. Plus missions are way to repetitive.

I miss playing Freelancer. That game is hot.

I loved Freelancer. I'll reinstall it occasionally just to play through the Single Player campaign again. I wish they'd make a sequel.

Little Privateer remake action may be just what you need. Can't vouch for it personally, but looks promising:

Any of the Homeworld games would be a great choice.
