View Full Version : Resale value of games, need advice, please

Hey lads, I'm considering purchasing a package deal in my local area. The package is a "gaming" computer with a few games. Some of the hardware I would keep. Some of it I would resell, including the games. If you know me, you know that I'm not a gamer. I have no idea what I might be able to get for the games this seller has, so I need advice from you.
Here's his Craigslist advertisement (http://anchorage.craigslist.org/sys/617710591.html). I apologize for the difficulty in reading his moronic writing. (no, I will not pay what he's asking) Well anyway, here are the games:
Games with original boxes:
Oblivion, Game of the Year Edition
Rainbow Six, Vegas
Dungeon Siege 2
Ghost Recon Advance Warrio
Call of Duty 2
*World of Warcraft, w/expansion Burning Crusades -- "has all cds...cd keys have been used but u will get my account as well 57 human warrior" (alright, I'm out of my element here - is this WOW a worthless offer?)
So, what do you think I could get for these games on trading forums? Any issues I need to be aware of in trying to sell them. I've talked to the guy. Apparently these are retail games with original packaging.
This non-gamer looks forward to your advice.

Games aren't worth anything really...WoW is particularly useless as you can't legitimately sell/trade the account. I'd say it's $35 in games max..

The WoW is invalid, you cannot resell accounts.
Oblivion GotY: $25-$30
R6 Vegas: $15-20
I don't know about the others. CoD 2 is old, so is Ghost Recon.

Oblivion might be the only thing anyone would pick up for more than $10. Like Prime said, the rest are too old to be worth much.
FWIW, you could check what people are reselling them for on Amazon.com.

Thanks, guys. I'm going to see how desperate this guy gets. I'm really only interested in the Stacker 830 case. I just won't bother with a sale unless I think I can fairly easily sell most of the hardware for a decent price. And of course, if the games would be a pain in the butt to unload, that influences a potential purchase as well.

I know you're not supposed to sell WoW accounts, but I know people who have. But then again, I do not play WoW, so I do not know. A friend of mine was trying to sell his account- I will ask him about it.

Unless the character is level 70, on a good server and with some end game gear you won't be able to sell it anyway.

A new player to the game won't care what server its on. With the price good characters cost anyway they can pay for a server transfer.

New players don't make your typical ebayer. Anyway, a level 57 character is practically worthless, doesnt make breaking the EULA worth it IMO.

Stop talking about this crap on the forums please. It breaks the EULA (a legally binding document). We don't talk account sharing/selling/trading publically on this forum, thanks for refraining to do so.

If you've got a problem then alert a mod.

Alright, I think I get the picture. You have educated me.
If you've got a problem then alert a mod.I am a mod, and I drew this information out of you guys so that I could make a good decision. You helped me. So I think we can leave it at that. :)

I can talk about selling an account all I want but it doesnt mean I broke that so called legally binding document. I would have to actually DO it.
But yes a lvl 57 adds nothing to the price of the game.

End of story there then.
What're the new goodies besides the case. Hmmmm...new toys. :D

Case: Cooler Master Stacker 830
PSU: Cooler Master 550W Real Power, EPS 12v, ATX 2.0 w/case-mountable power meter
Motherboard: MSI K9N Neo (AM2) with Cooler Master all-copper NB sink
DRAM: 1GB (2X512MB) OCZ Gold PC2 6400
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda, 100GB, PATA
Opt Drive: LG DVD burner
Opt Drive: LG CD burner
Video Card: EVGA 7900GS KO, PCI-e
It took two hours to clean everything. Out of the case, everything seems to run well. Today I'll be doing a Windows install to ensure everything works properly, then all goes on the trading forums except the case.
BTW, the seller, a young guy, was very happy to keep his games.

If you're looking to get rid of games, don't sell them to a video game shop (like Gamestop, or EB games).
I bought Gears of War when it first came out and sold it back to them and they only paid $20 for it. Complete waste of time!!!
Your best bet is to sell them on Ebay or just keep them.
